I've said it before. I'll say it again. Vote for the Worst has absolutely no control over the outcome of the American Idol voting.
But, but, but... BUT NOTHING! Despite the plaudits Votefortheworst.com keeps getting heaped upon them by others who seem to think their voting block influences the results they just simply don't.
Perhaps if VFTW could actually carry a contestant through the entire competition from the Top 24 when the voting process starts then that argument might carry some weight but the mere fact that they can't keep their most favored "worst" contestant in the competition just goes to prove that they don't actually have the numbers to make any kind of realistic difference.
At the start of the competition, there is more fragmentation with the votes as they are split between more contestants. At this point in the competition, you would think that it would be relatively easy, if you actually had the numbers, to keep someone around.
If 30million votes are made and the votes were distributed evenly, 2.5million votes would need to be cast. Obviously this is never the case with a lot of online polls showing support at around 1-6% support. Therefore, at least 1.8million votes would need to be cast in order to lift a contestant past that threshold at that point of the competition. As the weeks go by and there are less contestants competing for votes, the margins slim up and more votes will be required to keep someone around.
The issue for me in all of this is that I believe in giving credit where it is due, not where it isn't. In the case of VFTW, regularly you can read in their blog posts about people who are angry at them for influencing the results when perhaps their favorite has just been booted off the show. There have been shock results on Idol before VFTW came around and yet somehow now, these guys are responsible? Please, give me a break!
I think VFTW may have actually finally figured this out for themselves though as they now seem to be polling their members for who they think the community should target to keep. Sure, if you can't actually beat the system then lets just have a bit of fun pretending like we actually are and hope that no one catches on.
Surely if folks indeed actually read the site, and "read" is the operative word here, you'll see that 'overweight hausfraus' not quite the accurate appraisal of the demographic of the posters.
A sense of humor also a must to comprehend many of the 'regulars' - but I'm not talking the 'knock, knock, joke" variety, so perhaps it does fly over some folks' heads. Too, the Truth hurts baby, especially when blasting America's Darling of a Show.
Cheers, and remember: Vote for the Worst!
Here's the thing, though...there's a big debate on whether or not the votes are rigged anyway. And...if you read the rules carefully, the producers certainly have some wiggle room about that. I think the producers have more to do with who stays or goes than almost anybody. That right there would minimize VFTW's voting impact. Even if they aren't rigging the votes, VFTW has about as much power as any fan club, probably not more.
But if you look at VFTW just in terms of its voting bloc effectiveness, you have entirely missed the point. Where it's really effective is in pointing out what is actually going on with Idol. For example, the news that a bunch of the Top 24 were folks with industry connections was first reported by VFTW.
Although there are certainly exceptions, the vast majority of the hateful crap posted on that site is volunteered by visitors and trolls, not site regulars.
Seems to me that the concept of humor is one that goes over most of your heads
Stop by VFTW for a good, healthy snicker. After all ... it's just TV.
At least the queer got kicked off. Seriously, fine, be gay. But do they have to act like that? I don't know any women that feminine. Fag.
HAHAHA, a few hundreds of people (sic) huh? That's a good one!
People who go to that site are laughing at the losers who hang out there, not with them.
Are you trying to say that a few hundreds of people voting a few hundred times for one person makes zero difference?
That is the dumbest thing I've ever read in my life.
that's exactly what I'm saying.
let's be generous and say your "few hundreds" are actually a few thousand - 10,000.
With 30,000,000 votes, that would be a 0.0003%
yep... REALLY significantly impacting on the results.
Personally, I would think they might be getting a few more votes than that but still.. tiny in the scheme of things.
The people hanging out at VFTW are nothing but a bunch of overweight angry housewives with nasty, potty-mouth and bitter attitudes. Classic bullying syndrome - they hate themselves and take it out on everybody else.
There's absolutely no way that they they any significant influence on voting. Sure people visit their site - it's like going to Perez Hilton - it's addictive like watching a train wreck. I'm drawn to them because reading the comments on their forum remind me that there are so many more people out there who are way bigger losers than I am.
