Auditions for the 2007 series of American Idol have kicked off at the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles with about 10,000 hopefuls turning out for the chance at being the next Taylor Hicks or Carrie Underwood.

Fourteen judging stations with 3 American Idol producers whipped through the waiting contestants four at a time where the normal pattern of selecting only those who have that X-Factor for Television progressed through to having the chance to sing in front of Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell.

On Friday, the auditions move to San Antonio.

This is an interesting article dated the 8th of November that relates to last night's show in Vegas. Apparently Simon's favourite for the season was there. So why did we have to put up with the other crap?

NEW YORK, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell says he only remembers one contestant out of the hundreds who auditioned for the Fox TV hit's upcoming season.

"The only person I can genuinely remember from the auditions that I've done for this season is an Irish girl that we saw in Las Vegas who now lives in America," Cowell told The New York Post.

"I think she sang a Chaka Khan song and afterwards I said 'I think we may have found someone as good as ('Idol' winner) Kelly Clarkson.'"
