One of the on going hurdles that the producers of American Idol continually face is trying to keep the format fresh. Over the last 5 years we've seen a number of changes, mainly to do with the wildcard. We've gone from having a second chance for the initially eliminated contestants to now having two groups of contestants having a 50/50 chance at making it in and performing every week of the semi's. That change has been really positive with all the contestants now having extra time in front of the camera, giving the public more opportunity to get to know who they're voting into the top 12. But this year, there is another aspect to the show that the producers are hoping will spark more public interaction.

What is it with paranoid media companies who wont allow other media to publish material without giving first approval? This is pretty much what's happened with the American Idols Live tour which 19 Entertainment has enforced a stringent policy for media organisations wanting to cover the events that any photos need to be approved by them before they can be used. How ridiculous is that? The New Hampshire Union Leader didn't end up sending a photographer to the opening night show and instead published that the "show's organizers made an unacceptable demand: the right to review and approve our news photos before publication.".

my initial thought the top 12 contestants would make it into the final3 were
