Sanjaya should have gone, Sundance should have stayed - Whatever!

Submitted by The Critic on Fri, 2007-03-09 21:09

Can I just say I am so over all the discussion that Sanjaya Malakar should have been the one going home over Sundance Head. I am in no way a fan of Sanjaya as I do tend to think that his talent doesn't stack up against some of the better contestants in this game but come on, neither did Sundance.

A number of times on Idol we've seen someone come in with an incredible audition but the moment you put them on a stage with a band and let them sing for the vote of the country they just can't pull it off. I was never wowed by Sundance but thought he was good enough to really step it up during the Top 24 and show that he was a real contender for the Top 24. I never saw it. In fact, after this week's performance show, I was hoping he'd be going home after destroying the song he sang. He was off key and just plain awful.

For people to argue that Sundance was better than Sanjaya really irks me because, quite frankly, Jared Cotter was better than them both!

There have been some stupid comments made about Sanjaya having an international voting block in India, even suggesting a Jihadist block. Come on people. Calm down.

The reason Sanjaya made it over Sundance is simply because if you get a group of the core voters of American Idol together, the teenage girls, who are they going to vote for? Of course they're going to vote for the 'cute teenage boy' over the plus sized twenty something guy with something that looks like a dead animal glued to the bottom of his face. When the game is over, which one is going to have people buying posters to put on their walls? Of course it's Sanjaya.

So people can whinge about it all they like, but from a commercial standpoint, it's pointless. To that extent, had Sundance had won, I think he would have been an even worse version of Taylor Hicks who would have been outsold by other contestants who didn't even make the Grand Final.

Okay, on behalf of teenage

Okay, on behalf of teenage girls everywhere, I MUST stand up and say something. Out of all the teenage girls I know (which is a BUNCH), NO ONE liked Sanjaya. NO ONE! Of course, we weren't exactly Sundance fans, either. I, personally, never thought Sundance could sing, but like it has been said, he was fun to watch. Sanjaya, however? He can't sing and I don't like to watch him. Please don't assume that A- all teen girls just vote for the cute guys B- Sanjaya is cute and finally C- that the teen girls wouldn't want a pretty girl to win. I mean, come on, Kellie Pickler, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and Katharine McPhee are all pretty and look how far we put them through! What hurt Antonella is the scandal that has been all over the internet these past few weeks.

If all you girls don't like

If all you girls don't like chocolate, does that mean all other girls don't too?

It is a general statement. Teenage girls are the ones that are the biggest voters. Every now and then, other voting blocks intersect.

I can assure you it's the teenage girl vote. Just not you teenage girls. :)

I don't know. I like

I don't know. I like Sanjaya. He has a nice voice and is totally sweet and cute. He's just young and not very experienced and it's clear that he doesn't have much confidence given some of the other competitors. He looked just as shocked as everyone else when they announced that Sundance was going. Sundance on the other hand may be stronger now but he did not live up to his early promise and he chose bad songs over the last couple of weeks. The voting public rules.

Sanjaya is a very solid

Sanjaya is a very solid singer, if you enjoy mellow jazz and R&B. Whether or not he has range or can muster up an "edge" vocally remains to be seen. If not, he's gone in 2-3 weeks. Sundance had survived so far on likeablility, humility and a beautiful voice. Unlike Sundance, his pitch had been on, and his vocals had stayed under control. Sundance survived on his initial tryout, nothing more...that, and the fact that people liked him. He never "got it" in terms of the constructive criticism. He needs to blame his own tone-deafness...not the voting public.

Sabrina was a much different story. Someone just completely screwed up there. She was solid all along, while Haley didn't even belong on the same stage with the others. She can't compete...and she's the next to go.

Sanjaya has ZERO talent, and

Sanjaya has ZERO talent, and never ever should have made it as far as he did. It's a disgrace that EVERY contestant who has been sent home so far was better than Sanjaya. Even fat boy Sundance.

It was also a shock that Haley stayed over Sabrina. I can see Haley doing soundtracks for Disney movies and that's about it, maybe some off Broadway stuff. This just proves that too many people in this Country have no taste and no eye for true talent.

As for the dimented teenage girls who have kept Sanjaya around this long, they'll be taking those posters off the wall when their hormones settle down and they realize he's more interested in dating their boyfriend or brother! Get real people!

am very disppointed that the

am very disppointed that the early comments are dising Sanjaya he is strong as the rest and worked hard to be their so sidelining him andde popularising him will not work.the final say is for the consumer which happen to be the audience who voted him and if Sundance would have made it to the top he would have been less popular than Sanjaya.

Hi........I've been watching

Hi........I've been watching American Idol here in India........yes thats right..........India, and have to agree that I too watched the show in shock when Sanjaya won. I (and a lot of other Indians who watch the show) were floored to see Sundance going over Sanjaya. Sanjaya never stood out from the crowd and has not showcased a great voice even once, while Sundance did.

We're not allowed to vote from here.........but the show is great fun to watch....as long as the results show talent. Last night....it didn't.

Thanks

I agree almost entirely with

I agree almost entirely with the orignal entry, and it really puts things in perspective. I disregarded the core of teenage girl voters, which explains the hot girl vacuum that Antonella has left.

I do believe that Sanjaya has a bloc of strong supporters (like just about all the contestants do) who will carry him through for some weeks, and nothing you can say will change my mind about it. Of course, I wasn't the one who brought south Asian auto-dialing conspiracies up, and I hardly believe that to be the case.

I think the reason Sundance made it so far was because he's a good, not great, singer, and a fun guy to watch perform. If this was a radio show, Sundance would have been sunk a lot sooner. Of course, at the end of the day, Sundance needs to sell CDs, which he simply won't do.

Yuck..... I am sick to my

Yuck..... I am sick to my stomache. The results from Thursday night 3/8/07 were just disgusting. To keep Sanjaya over Sundance proves that it is not a singing contest. Like Simon said America must have had thier TV on mute. Nothing against Sanjaya but he does not have the voice to be in the top 12. Randy, Paula, and Simon must be kicking themselves in the butt for putting him through. Here is a new idea for next season the judges should have the final say. If that were the case both Sanjaya and Antonella would have been booted the first round.
As for Sabrina and Haley another brain-fart from America. Yeah Yeah Haley is from Texas oh well she can't sing as good as Sabrina. The show will in fact go on but I hope the majority of America that were actually voting on talent will discontinue watching. It is ridiculous!!!!!!!
