American Idol Episode 34 - Top 5 Performance Review

Tonight our four remaining American Idol contestants are singing the songs of an original American Idol and the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley Elvis Presley. It should be a great show as these four remaining Idols have some decent fan support so I suspect that they'll all be pulling out the stops to win over our votes.

Legendary music Mogul Tommy Mottola will be critiquing the Idols tonight. (Thankfully no one will be singing Maraih tonight.) It'll be interesting to see what the guy who headed up Sony Music Entertainment for 15 years has to say about their performances. What a privledge for the contestants to be working with him this week.

Stay tuned for details as they come to hand.

Taylor Hicks
Song choice: Elvis Presley - Elvis Rock - Jailhouse Rock Jailhouse Rock
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5701 or 1 866 436 5705
TXT Vote to 5701
My Thoughts: This is exactly the kind of music I'd expect to see Taylor perform. I do however tend to agree with Simon. It was Karaoke with capital K. Highly entertaining karaoke though.
Randy:
Paula:
Simon:

Chris Daughtry
Song choice: Elvis Presley - Suspicious Minds - The Memphis 1969 Anthology - Suspicious Minds Suspicious Minds
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5702 or 1 866 436 5706
TXT Vote to 5702
My Thoughts: I've never really liked this song but I must say that Chris' take on it is better than most I've heard. It's going to be a tough night tonight and I hope Chris' second song is going to be much better than that was.
Randy:
Paula:
Simon:

Elliott Yamin
Song choice: Elvis Presley - Elvis: 2nd to None - If I Can Dream If I Can Dream
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5703 or 1 866 436 5707
TXT Vote to 5703
My Thoughts: I really don't like the vibrato in Elliott's voice in this song but boy can he sing. Man. What a fantastic vocal! Gee. This could be a tough call tomorrow night after that performance.
Randy:
Paula:
Simon:

Katharine McPhee
Song choice: Elvis Presley - Hound Dog - Hound Dog Hound Dog / Elvis Presley - Elvis #1 Singles - All Shook Up All Shook Up
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5704 or 1 866 436 5708
TXT Vote to 5704
My Thoughts: I'm hating the backing vocals in this performance and overall it's a bit of a non event compared to some of the other performances Katharine has done. Please turn it up for round two.

Paula:
Simon:

Taylor Hicks
Song choice: Elvis Presley - Elvis #1 Singles - In the Ghetto In The Ghetto
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5701 or 1 866 436 5705
TXT Vote to 5701
My Thoughts: This is a fantastic song for Taylor. Much better with his own stamp on it.
Randy:
Paula:
Simon:

Chris Daughtry
Song choice: Elvis Presley - Elvis: 30 #1 Hits - A Little Less Conversation (JXL Remix) A Little Less Conversation
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5703 or 1 866 436 5707
TXT Vote to 5703
My Thoughts: This was a better song than Chris' first one but I'm not sure. It sounded old and not very polished to me.
Randy:
Paula:
Simon:

Elliott Yamin
Song choice: Elvis Presley - Elvis: 2nd to None - Trouble Trouble
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5702 or 1 866 436 5706
TXT Vote to 5702
My Thoughts: I think this could be the first time in this entire competition that we've actually seen some personality coming from Elliott. He's certainly played the card at the right time but is it going to be too little too late?
Randy:
Paula:
Simon:

Katharine McPhee
Song choice: Elvis Presley - Elvis: 30 #1 Hits - Can't Help Falling In Love Can't Help Falling In Love
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5704 or 1 866 436 5708
TXT Vote to 5704
My Thoughts: This is a good song choice but the start of the song is a little weak but it builds into something wonderful. There were a couple of notes in there that were fantastic. A much better performance second time round.

Idolblog Popularity Tracker - April 28, 2006

Submitted by The Critic on Fri, 2006-04-28 19:52

I've put together the latest Idolblog.com Popularity tracker based on your votes in our weekly polls. While Taylor Hicks has been a favourite throughout the competition, there is a trend starting to appear that has him dropping into fourth place after this week's performance show. Elliott Yamin's popularity is on the up and up and he's at an all time high.

American Idol Popularity Tracker

Katharine McPhee and Chris Daughtry appear to be the two favourites that are most likely to find themselves in the grand final based on the consistent popularity throughout the show. Katharine's popularity continues to grow, as does Chris'.

Based on these trends I think we can assume that Paris Bennett will be heading home next week and then it will come down to Taylor and Elliott.

Taylor Hicks is the Worst

Submitted by The Critic on Thu, 2006-04-27 19:08
American Idol Top 5

Now that we're down to five remaining contestants in American Idol and since Kellie Pickler has been eliminated it's time for VotefortheWorst.com to start picking contestants that actually have a chance of winning and name them as the worst contestant left in the show. Since it's a top 5 it was always going to be a hard pick but apparently Taylor Hicks is now their man to carry the "worst" banner.

I'm not sure about you but I find it insulting on so many levels. Taylor has added something truly unique to American Idol this year, so much so that he has made an enormous number of fans. There is the Soul Patrol that has been with him since his audition. Not to mention the numerous fan blogs including TaylorHicks2006 and GrayCharles.com who are devoted to this southern vocalist who has made Alabama proud.

<!-- FASTCLICK.COM 300x250 Medium Rectangle CODE for idolblog.com --> <!-- FASTCLICK.COM 300x250 Medium Rectangle CODE for idolblog.com -->

For VFTW to announce Taylor as the worst contestant left in the competition is nothing more than a desperate attempt to try and gain back what little credibility they had. If Taylor wins then somehow VFTW will be responsible as they were for Carrie Underwood - whose debut album has now outsold Kelly Clarkson's debut album.

Yesterday when Kellie went home VFTW really did look like a joke. This morning, seeing that Taylor Hicks has replaced Kellie Pickler as the worst contestant left on the show is purely ludicrous. Rather than bowing out quietly, VFTW continue to embarrass themselves with these stupid claims that they actually have some influence on the results. 47.5 million voted this week and Kellie went home. The 4 million visitors to VFTW, if they all voted, still couldn't keep her in the competition.

I'm interested to know what you think about this latest move by VFTW.

Vote For The Worst fails again

Vote For The Worst

For the, oh.. hang on.. I've lost count, time this season, Vote For The Worst has failed to keep their contestant in the competition after tonight's elimination of Kellie Pickler.

What's even funnier is that they are now asking the members of their forum to vote for who should be the next "worst" contestant they should get behind. Man. Give up already. It's now blatantly obvious that your tactics don't work and that your claims that VFTW has any influence over the results have no credibility whatsoever. R.I.P

American Idol Episode 33 - Top 6 Elimination Review

Andrea Bocelli

Last night our American Idol finalists sang Classic Love Songs for your vote. Tonight, one of them will miss out on a place in the Top 5 and be sent home. Andrea Bocelli Andrea Bocelli will be performing tonight as well but before we find out who is going home, let's check out our weekly review of our American Idol Polls.

Talk around the internet is that everyone is pretty much expecting Paris Bennett (5%) to be the one going home tonight and our poll agrees. In the second bottom place is Kellie Pickler (6%) who is yet to find herself near the bottom of the pack in the official results. In third place in our poll is another who has not yet been in the bottom three, Taylor Hicks (13%).

American_Idol-468x60

Chris Daughtry (32%) leads the charge again this week while Katharine McPhee (27%) slips into second place. Elliott Yamin (18%) finds himself in the top three after last night's performance.

When it comes down to who you want to see go home Kellie Pickler (54%) is the emphatic choice of Idolblog voters. Paris Bennett (26%) is the only other contestant that is above 6% of the vote so I think it's reasonably safe to assume that it's going to be one of these two going home tonight. Then again, we've seen strange results before on American Idol.

<!-- BEGIN: AdSolution-Website-Tag 4.3 : american.idolblog.com / 300x250 --> <!-- END:AdSolution-Tag 4.3 -->

Stay tuned for details as they come to hand.

Last night's vote saw a record 47.5 million votes being cast which is the highest non-finale vote since American Idol began.

Safe: Taylor Hicks, Elliott Yamin, Katharine McPhee and Chris Daughtry

Bottom Two: and Paris Bennett

Going home: Kellie Pickler

Andrea Bocelli

American Idol convenes again this week as the final 6 contestants perform Classic Love songs with the help from Andrea Bocelli Andrea Bocelli. Missing from this week's line up is Ace Young who was sent packing by America. My fears this week are for Paris Bennett. Being the youngest member of the Top 6, she is the one most likely to not be able to connect with this week's theme, but then again, she may very well have experienced a deep relationship that she can draw on in her performance. In any case, it should be an interesting show.

Stay tuned for details as they come to hand.

Katharine McPhee
Song choice: Whitney Houston - The Bodyguard - I Have Nothing I Have Nothing
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5701 or 1 866 436 5707
TXT Vote to 5701
My Thoughts: I don't think this was Katharine's best performance by a long stretch. Whitney is hard to pull off and as much as I love Katharine, her voice isn't that big. She should have chosen a more subtle song for her voice. If she had sung something more like what she did last week then she may be a little further away from being in the bottom three this week.
Randy:
Paula:
Simon:

Elliott Yamin
Song choice: Donny Hathaway - Donny Hathaway - A Song for You A Song For You
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5702 or 1 866 436 5708
TXT Vote to 5702
My Thoughts: Elliott has a very nice voice to listen to but am still not convinced he's good enough to pull in the crowds to a concert. He just seems to be missing some personality despite having the chops.
Randy:
Paula:
Simon:

Kellie Pickler
Song choice: Righteous Brothers - The Very Best of the Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody - Unchained Melody Unchained Melody
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5703 or 1 866 436 5709
TXT Vote to 5703
My Thoughts: This sounds really bad tonight. If the judges can slam Katharine for not sounding like Whitney then surely they need to bounce her for sounding this bad. That was truly painful to listen to tonight.
Randy:
Paula:
Simon:

Paris Bennett
Song choice: Barbra Streisand - The Way We Were - The Way We Were The Way We Were
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5704 or 1 866 436 5710
TXT Vote to 5704
My Thoughts: Paris has gotten a little boring for me. I was concerned at the start of the show and it doesn't really sound like she's connecting with the song at all. I was afraid this would happen and she's just gotten up there and sung rather than perform.
Randy:
Paula:
Simon:

Taylor Hicks
Song choice: James Ingram - Soul Train - 25th Anniversary Hall of Fame - Just Once Just Once
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5705 or 1 866 436 5711
TXT Vote to 5705
My Thoughts: This really wasn't a good song choice for Taylor. You could hear his personality in the song but the original was again so much better. What a strange night this has turned out to be.
Randy:
Paula:
Simon:

Chris Daughtry
Song choice: Bryan Adams - The Best of Me - Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman? Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman?
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5706 or 1866 436 5712
TXT Vote to 5706
My Thoughts: This is so funny hearing Chris sing Bryan Adams Bryan Adams. It's not too bad once he gets into the song but his gravel doesn't quite suit parts of the song. It is nice to hear that softer side to Chris but I do wonder if that will be detrimental to his fans having done that two weeks in a row when last week saw him in the bottom three.
