The best one WON! This is so exciting!!! David A. had a good voice, but still a lot of maturing to do. David C. is already a star and DESERVED to win! Congratulations David Cook, YOU ROCK!!!

I eat bees (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 16:05

I voted over 100 times for Archuleta.

Ahulove3214 (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 15:16

OMG, Archuleta sang so well!!! I really liked his second song of the night. Cook was off tonight, definitely not his best song choice and might regret it on the finale! Let's just say we all know that a David is gonna win!! haha, lol

Anonymous22 (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 15:38

There is nothing good about DA singing. He sounds like a little kid. He sings to his DAD not to the fans. He can barely make it througha song with out being winded. Yeah a lot of young people like him, but I like my rock and DC is the way to go. He could sing a phone book and be great. DC can make a song his and make it pure, DA sang to the way they were. Not good would not buy DA record but I would buy DC album anyday

David Cook's Fan (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 15:09

David C. is 100 times better and should win tonight!
David A. does not seem ready for stardom at all, still acts too young and his dad controls him too much. David C. has charisma, is orginal and has a great voice and so far the winner: 6140 votes vs. 3654!!! Go David Cook!

Idol-fan Wed, 2008-05-21 14:31

I am a David Cook fan and still is. However, I think Archuleta was the best last night. I voted for David Cook and not sure if he will win tonight.

If Cook wins or not, he will sell more albums than little David A.

I also think the judges were in favor of David A in all three songs... not giving any good comments to Cook even though he took RISKS!

I hope Cook wins tonight...

David Cook RULES!!!!!! (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 14:49

I think David Cook did better overall!

The first song sounded much better than David A.'s first song, which to me sucked. I thought he could've done so much better.

The second song was almost a tie on my behalf. Iit seemed like David Cook skipped a bunch of it when I pulled up the lyrics, but I still loved and found myself singing the next day nonstop, now I completely know the whole song! David Archuleta did great on the second song too. I really like that drawn out "I" part.

The third song was the worst! David cook did better for only one reason through my eyes: HE SANG A NEW SONG!!! Everytime someone sings a song more than once on American Idol, they get insulted by the judges. But David Archuleta sang Imagine again and the judges just complimented him on it! I like it when he sings Imagine, it sounds very good, but he should've learned a new song.

So basically David Cook rules!!!!

DAS (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 13:13

Yeah, I think Cookie didn't quite wow the audience. He played some good songs, but nothing memorable or wowifying like the Billie Jean song he did weeks ago. He seemed really relaxed and was just playing soft-rock. It sounded good, but not worthy of a finals performance. Maybe he didn't want to win? Honestly winning is kind of a curse and it would be appropriate for the muppet-mormon to win and go on to make cheesy ballad albums that 14 year old girls buy. Cookie didn't show any edge or range on his last night. He has a strong character and theme, and lots of charisma, but its not superstar-ish, hell, it wasn't even really "rock." Collective Soul? Zzzzz......

Too bad 'cause I like him better, but i'm not really the typical viewer. Archuleta was super consistent and cheesy the whole time, but he knows his audience and he targets them with razor sharp focus. Hey, sounds like something a smart marketing person would do. DA did have that one Beatles flub, but no one really noticed. As it turns out his audience is huge and he could do no wrong. Cookie was probably the most improved, or at least mostly found his niche in the process, but it looked like he was still experimenting on the last night. Archuleta did that one experimentation with a hip hop song and then quickly went back to barf sap cheese-ville. He's the next AI and the next Barry Manilow. Blech.

Shy A (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 13:17

winning is only a curse if the winner doesn't have an audience. Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood did good but I honestly don't know why Jordan Sparks won last year. Last year was the lamest year so far though. This year was pretty awsome with a lot of talent.

I liked most of the top 12 for once.

Anonymous011 (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 13:41

Jordin won because she is young just like Archie. Idol want to atrract more audience so they need young people to win the American Idol title. Haven't you Notice how Randy always says Archie is good, even on his bad performance? I think randy has a crush.
people can't vote that's why Idol has so many failure winners! and if Archie wins, I think he will fit right down there with Ruben and Taylor.

DC fan for life (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 12:59

David Cook was BEYOND AMAZING as always. No matter what happens tonight he will alwaya be my idol. This is the end of Idol for me. David is the only contestant that I went crazy over and idol is getting boring!!David is it for my me, no idol will ever compare to him. he is just that Amazing! With or without idol you will make it big!!!!

Anonymous12 (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 12:55

david a is gay right?

megg (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 14:47

That was so uncalled for. David Archuleta is very sincere and is the greatest contestant from this season.

Anonymous01 (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 13:02

Yes! David Archuleta is GAY!!!

AMERICAN DARNA (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 12:51

if david cook loose, he will have a great record career after idol! And if david a. wins...nah, i wont buy his cd.

Shy A (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 12:06

I like them both but my hundred or so votes went for David A last night. I reminded my friend to vote also since she loves David C. We probably canceled each other out if she voted last night.

I love David A as I havne't heard anything so refreshing in a while. I think he'll go far the same as David C will. America can always use another rocker. I have a feeling he'll be big sort of like Daughtry.

I have to say; it was nice seeing the 2 make it this year to the finals that actually deserved to be there.

Good luck to them both! I'll be buying both of thier albums.

sexy135 (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 12:11

Okay...David Cook is good, but his voice is not original. He sounds like Chris Daughtry or Chad Kroger from Nickelback. David Archuleta ha a uniqe voice. I think David Archuleta nailed it last night and will be the naxt American Idol, but they both will get a recording contract.

Anonymous22 (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 15:24

He can't sing. He sounds like a young kid that looses his breath to much and is always flabergasted by everyone. David A. is not a singer. He sang Imagine by John Lennon for his last song. It sucked the worst song every to try to change. Same with Stand By Me by Ben E King. Some songs are not meant to be changed and David A sucked at doing it.

Shy A (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 12:17

That's kind of what I though. I love Daughtry and I don't really think Cook sounds like him, but he falls into the same catagory with all the rock. Not that rock is bad; I love rock. I just put all my votes to Archuleta. I favored him this year. I don't think either was better than the other because they sing totally different styles. I still prefer David A to win though. Like I said before, I will be buying both of thier albums, however. I like both thier styles. They're both worthy of winning even if I want the kid to win.

kcfemme (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 11:50

DAVID COOK is way above and beyond Disney Soundtracks (what Archie amounts to)! GO DC!!!

Archie=Kermit & Zoolander

brandon (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 12:07

what you amount to is filling in for dopey. your full of it.

ID gal (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 11:02

I enjoy reading all of these comments. It keeps me entertained during my boring work hours *sigh*.

I voted for Cook and I'm crossing my fingers he is the winner of American Idol. I have my reasons and my opinions as to why I prefer him over Archuleta, but those only matter to me and that's where they'll stay.

No matter the outcome tonight they both will do well with their careers. They are both equally talented in their own way, and both deserve recognition for that talent. They're really both winners at the end of this. I would be a little disappointed if Cook doesn't win, but c'est la vie! He'll have a record deal anyway. Good luck to both Davids! 8 hours and counting to the finale!

Paul maverick (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 10:04

I don't believe all this shit about Cook singing from the heart, he's not an emotional person he's simply copying his rock heroes. He has a good voice and mimics the likes of Chris Cornell pretty well, but won't ever be as good as.

Who does David A sound like? I don't know, because his voice is far more original than cooks. It has far more control, range and emotion.

raphael_ryan (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 10:36

Because DC sings like other rock singers, therefore he does not sing with emotions.

Because DA sings like no other singer, therefore he must be singing with emotion.

Gosh. I guess that makes William Hung a more emotional singer than, say, Dave Grohl.

blaahhhhhhhh (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 09:51

Why Archuletha win? This another analysis....

That's the safest headline I'll ever write. The show's producers may have told us it's been a lot closer than we believed (with only one million votes separating the Davids two weeks ago), but this is what I think: a tie goes to Archuleta. Archuleta needs to stumble or Cook needs to be unbelievable if Cook wants to win.

SHOW OPENER -- The "Let's get ready to rumble" guy introduces the two Davids, who come out in full boxing gear. This sets a boxing theme for the night, which is amusing. It certainly wouldn't have worked for Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken but it works here. Besides, this means they get to nickname Archuleta "Babyface." In talking about past winners, they flashed Daughtry's face even though he didn't even make the finals. Simon gives them one bit of typical advice: "You've got to have a desire to win. And you've got to hate your opponent."

DAVID COOK -- Clive Davis, legendary label head, chooses U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For," which makes Cook visibly pleased. It's a great choice -- yearning, rocking but not with the typical Cook formula of building up to a big finale. He looks very confident and his voice sounds great. Cook stays right with the song, not revamping it or trying to mutate it into something but just delivering it straight until the last note when he soars up a bit very effectively. Very, very good start. Randy offers a tiny caveat and gets the year wrong (it's 2008, dawg), but praises him. Paula takes us to church, saying, "David Cook has arrived. Amen. Amen." Simon calls it "phenomenal."

DAVID ARCHULETA -- Clive Davis chooses Elton John's "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me," another very good choice. Archuleta -- who Ryan Seacrest will call "little David" and "Archie," among other nicknames -- begins by sitting on some steps, which means the fans will get to squeal when he stands up. Even sitting down, Archuleta gives lots of hand gestures, but with coaching by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Archuleta was chided to keep his eyes open and does a much better job. His voice sounds great, too, and he's very soulful here. It's pretty close to the George Michael version but doesn't sound like an imitation. To me, it's very strong and the first round is a tie. Randy raves, Paula says "The sun is never going to go down on you" and Simon insists it was the best performance by Archuleta for the entire season. "Oh my gosh," says Archuleta, who seems on the verge of tears and/or nervous exhaustion the entire night (but in a cute, puppy-ish way). Simon gives round one to Archuleta.

DAVID COOK -- In a twist, the contestants are allowed to choose among the top songs submitted for the show's season-ending tune. (However, they apparently don't get to choose the actual winner, which will be unveiled Wednesday night.) Cook chooses a pop-ish rocker called "Dream Big," which has the usual inspirational lyrics ("But if you don't dream big, what's the use of dreaming?") but a pretty solid melodic hook. It's certainly the most rockin' original Idol tune (relatively speaking). The bar is pretty low, but I'd say it's the best Idol tune and a not-bad single. It also shows off a poppier side to Cook and again avoids his standard formula all season, which I assume he's saving for the final song.

DAVID ARCHULETA -- He chooses a far more typical Idol original, "In This Moment," an inspirational ballad with some truly goofy lyrics about looking at your own image in a mirror and wondering how the mirror can reflect perfection. Andrew Lloyd Webber actually mocks the lyrics. But it's in Archuleta's wheelhouse -- this was always the round that should have been easier for him -- and he gets to end on a big note. Again, both guys are in great voice. Randy, Paula and Simon all rave, with Simon saying round two goes to Archuleta, just like round one. This time, I agree with him.

DAVID COOK -- The contestants can choose any song they want as their last number. Instead of picking a greatest hit, Cook boldly decides to do a new tune, Collective Soul's "The World I Know." On the plus side, you won't be compared to your best performance of the season. And you get to create a new memory. Cook plays an acoustic guitar and I'm expecting a build-up to a big emo finale. Instead, it's a soft, quiet tune and ends on a gentle note. On its own, this was a good performance. But Cook went the entire night without ever delivering the emo rocker rave-up style that got him to the finals in the first place. Big mistake. When it's over, Cook wells up with emotion and cries for a moment. Randy praises him; Paula, who has been in full-on blurb mode the entire night, says "You're standing in your truth;" and Simon compliments Cook by saying he's "one of the nicest and most sincere" contestants they've ever had and says it was a good performance of the tune but absolutely the wrong song choice. Simon says Cook should have performed "Billie Jean" or "Hello" and he's right. Unless Archuleta implodes, the night is his.

DAVID ARCHULETA -- He knows what it takes to win: big notes at the end of the songs and play to your strength. So no surprise that Archuleta chooses John Lennon's "Imagine," easily his most praised performance of the season. On the downside, you'll be compared to your peak on the show. But assuming he doesn't go dreadfully wrong, he'll win it all. Archuleta again begins in the middle of the tune -- I'll bet you during his entire career that he NEVER sings the lines "Imagine no religion, it's easy if you try/ No hell below us, above us only sky." He goes for a little more soul this time out and doesn't match his first shot at it, which was simpler and more effective. But it's good and gets the job done. Randy anoints him the winner, Paula praises him too, and Simon says "Tonight we've witnessed one of the great finales" and awards Archuleta a knock-out, to keep with the boxing theme.

As usual, Simon is right. It was a very solid finale, with both performers in great voice and neither one really stumbling. Best of all, it was only one hour long, so the show wasn't needlessly padded. Go here to watch their performances. But a tie goes to Archuleta and it wasn't even a tie. Surprisingly, after going again and again to the formula of starting off quietly and building to a big rocking finale all season long, Cook had three songs tonight and didn't do it once. Why avoid the schtick that got you to the finals? But he shouldn't have any regrets. Archuelta would have won anyway with the performances he gave and Cook made a good case for himself as a real performer (a better one, to me, than he'd made since breaking out with "Hello"). So they both win. But the new American Idol winner is David Archuleta. Do you agree?

Anonymous...... (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 10:01

no. i dont agree. Smiling

Seamoore Wed, 2008-05-21 09:51

Did not watch the show last nigth this season was over weeks a go. David A. has the best chance of a career on disney channel. While Cook is going to join Ruben & Taylor Hicks in never was land.

David Archuleta became the winner of the next American Idol of 2008. Many bloggers had already predicted that the next winner of the American Idol 2008 song contest will be David Archuleta and here is why. Reports UltraDust from You Will Be Forever.

Archuleta has good attitude. He's not loud when. He doesn't talk back to the American Idol judges or defend himself.

1. He's super good looking. Super clean faced!
2. He sings very well.
3. He sang a CSI song! Opps, that's the wrong DAVID!
4. He sang a Switchfoot song. Opps. WRONG DAVID again.

So that's my prediction. David A Wins This Year's American Idol 2008!

Now if you're in a cave, David's wiki page and his involvement with American Idol:

David James Archuleta (born December 28, 1990) is an American pop singer and a finalist on FOX's seventh season of American Idol as of May 2008. He will compete against David Cook on the American Idol Season Finale on May 20, 2008. At the age of twelve, Archuleta won the Junior Singers competition on Star Search.
Contents

David Archuleta was born in Miami, Florida to James Jeffrey Archuleta and Lupe Marie Archuleta. He has three younger siblings, Amber, Daniel and Jazzy, and an older sister, Claudia. Archuleta's family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah when Archuleta was thirteen and currently lives in Murray, Utah, where Archuleta is a student at Murray High School. The only regular job he has had was over the summer of 2007 as a sound "techie" at a park amphitheater.[5] He once suffered partial vocal paralysis but refrained from risky surgery and feels he is almost fully recovered.

Archuleta started singing when he was six because he was inspired by a Les Misérables video. "That musical is what started all of this," he said. He started performing publicly at ten years old when he participated in the Utah Talent Competition singing "I Will Always Love You" by Dolly Parton; he received a standing ovation, and won the kid division.

Archuleta's mother is from Honduras, and much of the music he listened to as a child, according to an interview aired on American Idol, was Latin-influenced. She also "was big on dancing" according to Archuleta, and would "make" him dance to traditional music with his older sister. He also listened to jazz music, he said, from his father's collection as well as gospel, pop, rock and "soulful music." In a later interview he also revealed that his dad was a jazz musician. Archuleta also enjoys Broadway musicals.

On his American Idol "Fast Facts" page, Archuleta cites his musical influences as Natalie Cole, Stevie Wonder, Kirk Franklin and Bryan Adams. When asked to list his top pop artists, he cites Natasha Bedingfield, Natalie Cole, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Bryan Adams, Kirk Franklin, and Robbie Williams. He also cites Tamyra Gray and Elliott Yamin as his favorite former American Idol contestants.[citation needed] Like Yamin and another singer he admires, John Mayer, Archuleta aspires to infuse his pop selections with a soulful vibe.

In 2003, at the age of 12, Archuleta sang on several episodes of the television show Star Search. He ended up as the Junior Vocal Champion on Star Search 2.[2] On one episode, he sang against then 13-year-old Alexandréa Lushington, who also became a "top 20" semi-finalist on American Idol alongside Archuleta. Archuleta's competing on Star Search led to appearances on The Jenny Jones Show and CBS' The Early Show, and meeting the finalists from American Idol's first season, for whom he performed a spontaneous a cappella rendition of "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" from Dreamgirls.

Archuleta won his ticket to the Hollywood final auditions (with a performance of John Mayer's "Waiting on the World to Change") at the San Diego tryouts held at Qualcomm Stadium - July 30 and July 31, 2007. He was 16 during the Hollywood auditions (where he sang Bryan Adams' "Heaven" to unanimous praise) and, along with other contestants not yet 18, will have to go to school ("doing schoolwork in the morning and then come onto the stage and then go back to the schoolwork") while a part of American Idol's seventh season. His parents have been on hand, because he is a minor. Archuleta has also taken advantage of the decision to allow contestants to play musical instruments; he has accompanied himself on piano for his performances of "Another Day in Paradise" and "Angels."

The Los Angeles Times suspected that Archuleta avoided singing the first verse of "Imagine" because, "as a Mormon, he's unlikely to espouse the song's agnostic ideal . . . with the line about 'no religion too.'" Archuleta did, however, sing the entire song on Good Things Utah when he was 13.

chriscapili (not verified) Wed, 2008-05-21 09:21

i strongly believe DAVID COOK will win. he may not be the best singer but at least he knows how to take risks and still does good on them, unlike DA. DA plays safe with his song choices. he's afraid of taking the ririsks and trying out something new to his usuals. voting DA is such a stupid act cause he cannot show other sides of his voice. he has limited capacity on singing. balladeers? uh-oh. Blank
