It has come down to this America! Adam Lambert vs Kris Allen. I think the outcome is fairly inevitable but after Kris threw all caution to the wind last week and knocked Danny Gokey out of the race, it really is game on!.
There was a coin toss last week to decide who would be performing when. Kris won and decided to perform second.
There are three songs each tonight. One is chosen by American Idol's creator, Simon Fuller. Of course there will be also be the winners single, No Boundaries, which has been co-written by Kara DioGuardi.
It's going to be a mammoth effort tonight. Who are you backing for the win?

Ryan also warns everyone that if you're not going to watch tomorrow's show live then you'll want to extend your DVR as they're expecting to go over time.
Let's get into the show. First up is Adam with his performance from Year of Birth week.
It's almost a shame that Adam has encored this song. First impressions last and I don't think that was as good second time around.
Randy: I give you an A+ for that one.
Kara: I'm so glad you chose that song. You're an incredible artist. You rocked it again tonight.
Paula: I am unbelievably proud to see you standing on that stage tonight. This is your moment.
Simon: I always thought that was your best performance throughout the series but that was a little over theatrical tonight.
This was a really nice performance. Kris has really grown throughout this season of American Idol and wouldn't surprize me if he snuck home after a performance like that.
Randy: You saved your best till last. That was your best performance on the stage.
Kara: You make it feel as if you're singing directly to us. I love how you connect.
Paula: Allenized!
Simon: When your name was announced last week I wasn't sure if America had made the right decision but after that performance, I take it all back.
Simon calls the first round for Kris Allen. I tend to agree.
I think a more upbeat song would have been better tonight. However, those last few notes were amazing.
Randy: That's an amazing RnB classic and you can sing your face off.
Kara: That may have been your best interpretation of a song in this competition yet.
Paula: That was the best I've ever heard you sing. You are going to be iconic.
Simon: All I would say is you are 100% back in the game.
It was a fun little set but it was a little on the lite side.
Randy: I love this duel. You sang it great but it was a little lite for me.
Kara: You've been true to yourself from day one.
Paula: You tore that song up and made Marvin Gaye proud.
Simon: You did not grab the song and make it your own and it was too laid back for a night like this.
Round two is called to Adam. Easy decision.
Another typical Idol winners song. Probably one of the better ones that we've heard recently.
Randy: I've said it before and I'll say it again. You can sing anything but that wasn't my favorite performance of yours.
Kara: I'm moved and I'm proud of you giving us that moment at the end.
Paula: I'm in awe. You can sing what ever you want and I will be a fan
Simon: It's the mountains and hurricanes that get me. I genuinely believe we've found a world wide star with you.
I think I definitely preferred Adam's version of the song but it really could go either way.
Randy: You've done so well in this competition.
Kara: I don't want you to be judged on that song as I think it was a little high. I hope people vote based on the season.
Paula: I wish you the best of luck. You deserve the spotlight.
Simon: You thoroughly deserve to be standing on that stage tonight.
Yes, we're running over time but there still appears to be time for Carrie Underwood to perform the song that's played as each elimination this year -
Home Sweet Home.
Did Kris and Adam put on a good show tonight despite it being a competition? I think so. Tomorrow night is going to be massive. Performances by some of the music industry's biggest name.
Make sure you join us tomorrow for the spectacle that is the American Idol season finale.
i like both them

Stay positive no matter what, but not in denial.
I AM PISSSSSSSSSSSSST OFFt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Adam....The title was STOLEN from you, for whatever reason.
You proved yourself over and over. You have been CONSISTENT all the way.
Something is wrong in AMERICA when someone of your talent is not given what is due. I am still in shocked!!! The judges looked shocked as well.
Chris was average but not of IDOL quality.
PLEASE cut a CD soon. I can"t wait to see what you do in the studio.
I WII NOT look at AMERICAN IDOL next season.
ADAM YOU ARE MY IDOL!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with you... I am pissssssssssed off also!
Kris can't even sing ...and half the time he is off key.. he is nothing next to Adam. It was just the young kids that voted for him. God what a travesty.... Kris should not accept it...
Adam is so much better then him . Kris will never make it... he will be another Taylor Hicks.. gone before he ever made it!
HAW....HAW!!
Its very sad that in 2009 we are still worried about sexual orientation, let people live and thou shall not pass judgment on others................
I don't get it. I can't see what is so great about Adam. On his second song, for sure, he was off key for the first half of the song, yet this was dubbed his best performance.....? Come on!! If people vote based on talent, Kris has it in the bag. The boy can sing, play piano and guitar and who knows what else. Adam, on the other hand, can hit notes that would make a dogs ears bleed. To me, it's a no brainer. But, almost every season, the one with true talent never gets crowned.
The show is not called America has Talent we are voting on performances so quit selling Kris' talents. They are both great performers it depends on individual taste.
I'm from Mexico, and i'm sooooo looking foward to watch the finale this saturday. I'm sad i couldn't watch it tonight....
I hope Adam wins... He's AWESOME!!! and he's the reason i became again an american idol fan, since Melinda Doolittle lost =(...
And hell yeah! Not only america's ready for him... The entire World is indeed!
Wow, Cara needed two other people to write that terrible song? The idol winner's singles are always generic, but i think this one takes the cake. How many times has the metaphor "each step is mountain" been used? And how many times did Cara go on about "artistry?" On the bright side Paula didn't look like a complete train wreck tonight. Oh and Adam and Kris rocked it!
Is anyone else bothered by the constant homophobic comments that keep popping up? We don't need a contest between "guyliner" and clean cut. Every "theatrical" comment is another dig at Adam. Sad.
