I've been reading all these comments and all you people take it so personally!! Yet some are in here tearing each other apart over what a talent show??!! Man there's so much more in this world for us to get pissed about for instance GAS prices! people in countries dieing from not being allowed to get aid such as the victims of the cyclone.... now that is something to be upset about. Of course he's still young and inexperienced, but he has the talent and with years of experience he can develop his own style and personality. Congratulations to David Cook on his triumphant win last night On American Idol. I personally don't find him attractive but he has a great singing voice. I really liked when he sang Billy Jean he really made that song his own. Archuleta, I liked at first but then he became pretty boring for a young guy. Plus he displayed no personality when speaking the little shy boy got pretty old quick!

David Cook is the most talented person they have ever had on idol and more than deserved to win. Finally America gets it right and crowns the original and daring rocker. He will be hugely successful, and thats just what they needed. He owns so many of the best performances ever on Idol. What a lovely guy he is too. So sweet and humble. When he won the first thing he thought to do was console Archie and applaud him. What a guy. All this on top of having a brother dying of cancer and supporting a little girl with cancer by wearing that orange bracelet every week. He's a true Idol in every sense of the word.

dont know about all of you, but honestly david cook, is NOT the hottest thing since sliced bread. he has a receding hair line, and he needs a shave.
that being said. David archuletta (tarantula?) He did not SUIT my tastes. He has a wonderful stage career ahead of him, possibly playing some amazing part in a broadway musical. This is not a diss, i love musicals.
I did not like his voice as a current musician, Cook may have done some original work, he may have borrowed other versions of the "lame" show lists they had this year, but he had the ability to get it done.
He also has the range to get it done. Not the octave range, but the muscial range, from rocker to ballad to even rock ballad, not many people have that ability.
I know that the archulettaites are really angry right now. I understand that, I know that the Cookies are just estatic. Just realize that none of what we say matters now. It's over, it's done with, and the two will either rise from this heroes or fade into oblivion.
Don't know about you but I've yet to hear a number one from ruben studdard, fantasia, and after that my idol knowlege waxes and wanes.
I seriously hope Cook kept enough interest that he can pull a great career out of this shenanigan, but if he can't at least he had the chance to be something for a while, and i'm glad I got to hear his vocals in the meantime.

Simon issued his retraction (probably because the producers gave him the heads up on the fix at the last minute) and Archuleta looked like he knew the results before it was announced (probably because his Dad/Manager wouldn't play ball with the American Idol producers).
The only one who looked suprised was David Cook! Obviously they have different styles buy even he knows he couldn't hold a note next to Archuleta.
Cook will disappear into nothingness like his last generic band did, no matter how much money they throw at him and Archuleta's undeniable natural talent is going to make some lucky producer filthy stinkin' rich even if his Dad IS a pain in the ass.
Hopefully Cook will invest whatever loot he can pull out of this and spin it into some sound investments for his retirement.
You have to wonder why the results are concealed and scrutinized by the producers and the producers alone.

Did you even watch the show? I mean honestly? How many songs from David Cook were amazing, original, and alive? How many songs from David A were boring, the same sound, and very much dead. DC has the ability to be more than just a singer, he is extremly talented, and extremly progressive. DA started with Imagine and Ended in Imagine....so he had ZERO progression, he never changed, he didnt get better he stayed the same...very weak very very WEAK. David Cook IS so much better than the little werido who has no stage presence, no individuality, all he can do is sing he's not a American Idol...plan and simple.

Why should David Archuleta have to change his style? I like his consistency in keeping his vocals under control every week, without having to shout or change his style just to win votes. He gave his all at the finals and I belive that he won the finale, even if he didn't win the season.

It wasn't "fixed". Dial idol which measures busy signals on the AI phone lines and has done for last 4 seasons predicted without a shadow of a doubt and by a huge margin that David Cook would win based on their data.
Also the better singer won.

I wouldn't say that I was an Archuleta fan. My opinions are based on the clarity and the quality of the vocals. I'm not a Seyesha fan either and she was far and away, above DC's abilities as well. I just don't find the results credible for the quality of the performances that were produced.
I have seen Collective Soul, live at a small venue about ten years ago and I'll never forget it - it was crystal clear. David Cook was pitching all over the place and I'm sure the Collective Soul boys were cringing at every butchered note. Come on now, lets be honest and I don't buy that "making it his own crap". He can't sing the song and that's that.
I forgot that Taylor Hicks guy's name until recently and I doubt if I'll remember who David Cook is a year from now either.

David Cook is Marketable. He is perfect age, young, no baggage, bright smile, seems confident, poised, likable (by non Archie fans lol), seems to be genuine (I am not like most of the idiots on here that presume to KNOW the idols lol) and he reaches the a wider demographic than syesha or David A. and that's what won him idol.
People seem to miss the one important fact about this damn show… It's not all about the damn singing voice!!! It's about the damn votes!! It's not about the quality of the body of work!!! It's about the votes!!! How many times on here have people dropped words like vibrato, pitch, range, tonal quality… WHOOP! If the largest mass of people liked the off-key pitch and votes… it don't mean JACK!
You speak of business like you have experience and knowledge of it and I am sure you will recognize that any business that wishes to thrive markets itself and creates a brand identity that delivers flash and sparkle with great tag lines that elevate itself to it's audience… it's what sells. David Cook sells.
Steve Jobs had the best operating system in the late 80's a massively better product than Bill Gates and was going to storm the word with the "Apple computer" Only to have the rug pulled out from him by Gates that put a more sellable product on the shelf first called DOS on an IBM… Apple was the better computer, IBM out sold it by getting to market and giving the majority of people what they "wanted" while Jobs held back perfecting the apple to give people "perfection" and what he felt people needed.
Perfection is not marketable anymore. TONS of people prefer to hear "raw" edgy voices that do make mistakes, as opposed to studio revamped/remixed/unreal content. Acoustic versions, real versions. "polished voices" have no place in Rock is far as I am concerned and Rock IS still the mass leader in music content. David A is fantastic at pulling your heart string and giving you that sad hopeful feeling when he sings. Cook makes you want to drive faster, push it to the edge… reach down and feel your heart pounding and jump out of the plane, he's a rush, he's a rocker! He just happened to be good enough to also have a good enough voice to pull off the ballads when he had too.

I get really tired of all the haters that say Archuleta is a one-trick pony. Yes, David A. did do alot of ballads this season because he was smart enough to know that they showcased his talent the best. It got him to the finale now didn't it. However, he really does have the ability to do other music. His renditions of the up-tempo Sweet Caroline and America were superb. I also liked his version of Dont Let the Sun Go Down on Me. Not exactly up-tempo but still a worthy song. He does need to work on his stage presence though especially in the more upbeat songs. But last night during his performances with OneRepublic and his duet with Cookie, he showed that he can do timely pieces and still rock the house. I, for one, would definitely buy that kind of CD. So. Jeff, do your boy right and please, please, please market him right. Make sure he does contemporary music not remix of old Sinatra cuts.

I'm actually a bit shocked
I'm actually a bit shocked that America made the right choice. It seems that, most of the time, we're very short-sighted in our decisions and go with what's fluffy, shiny and cute. I had pretty much resigned myself to a David A win, but I'm glad that someone who seems to have a very genuine personality, decent looks, modesty, wit, a sense of humor, a lot of creativity and a rough but powerful voice pulled through and was victorious by several million votes. This is the equivalent of the smart, cute girl that you love to hang out with winning the beauty pageant instead of the fake-tanned, fake-breasted obnoxious girl. Sure, the latter is always fun to look at for a few minutes, but in the end, most folks will prefer someone who has substance and character, not just an adorable smile. Both Davids will have decent careers, at least for a little while, but I will actually purchase David C's record (I've never even thought about purchasing an Idol contestant's record before this) whereas I would never purchase a David A record. What folks in the David C camp seem to understand is that this competition is about more than just having a flawless voice - we can build robots with those. It's about having the complete package, including several layers of intangibles that allow an individual to identify and relate to other people and win their hearts and minds.
Congratulations, David Cook. You've earned it.

DC deserved it more than anyone in Idol history! Please stop bashing and be happy for both of them. David A. knew that he was going to lose because what he had done all season didn't compare to what DC had done over and over every week! DC just looked like a star last night. He had it all.. the voice, the looks, the whole entire package! I even got all teary eyed especially when they told him he won he gave David A. a big hug and had everyone clap for him. Just have to post a note. After reading some of the blogs, it's amazing to me how cruel and un-intelligent some of you are. First of all if your going to hate on someone - get out the dictionary and spell the words correctly. Also check with your english teachers because most of you are slaudering the english language. I even read one comment about a racial bias. Please this is a reality TV show that America votes on. I'm sure the few of you that are stating they will not watch next year will be replaced with new viewers because David Cook won. I watched every episode from the auditions to the finale and never once did I see David Cook use the sickness of his brother to his advantage. Actually it was released by the press to America. He never brought it up. I had a relative die of cancer 2 years ago and I find the statements made in here appalling. Maybe some of you should try night school to educate yourselves before making complete fools of yourselfs in front of America.

I agree totally with America making the wrong choice. Not that David C. is not a talented individual, but if you go on pure singing quality and ability, David A. is far and away the superior talent. Even Randy Jeckson realizes that, when he commented the goal of Idol is to find each year the best singer and the best is David Archuleta.... And how about the idiotic comments that David C. is the only "musician" of the 2 Davids...I guess in their sad minds only someone who can play a guitar is a musician? And I suppose the piano doesn't count as a musical instrument? Fact is, David Archuleta is a true musician in the truest sense, and what is intimidating to the haters is that the kid is only 17! After David C. is "old" and washed up, this kid will still be in his prime. If you judge success on the future, David Archuleta's future is not only brighter, but LONGER! Take away David C.'s guitar, and you have a a good singer who is a dime a dozen. I know anyone with half a brain would acknowledge that even the least of talent can strum a guitar, bounce around the stage, and scream into a microphone and still be considered a success. That is what Rock and Roll is, and it doesn't take an extreme talent to do so. On the other hand, take away David A.'s piano, which he did most of the time, and you have a GREAT singer who can still carry the stage and the day, which doesn't come along but every once in a while. Quality singers have staying power. Perhaps the reason you David A. haters are so spiteful is that you all realize this kid is going to be around a very long time. So you better get use to it! Deal with it!
