Over 36 million votes were cast last night to prove just how popular season 8 of American Idol is.
It's a star studded line up tonight with Lady Gaga and David Cook both performing on the show before one more will be shown the door.
The Top 9 perform Journey's
Don't Stop Believin'
Building the bottom three, Megan Corkery, Matt Giraud and Kris Allen are all asked to stand up and head to the other side of the stage. Adam Lambert, Lil Rounds and Allison Iraheta are asked to head to the centre of the stage. That leaves Scott MacIntyre, Danny Gokey and Anoop Desai. Who is safe? Which of these three groups is the bottom three?
The reigning American Idol, David Cook, is back on the stage to perform his new single
Come Back to Me. He's sold over a million copies of his album in the last three months and Ryan hands him a plaque to celebrate being certified platinum.
To the results. Kris Allen is safe. Matt Giraud is not in the bottom three this week despite Ryan leading him to believe that he is. Megan Corkery, however, is in the bottom three. What's with the cawing and flapping of wings?
Lil Rounds is safe. Allison Iraheta isn't and joins Megan. Adam Lambert is safe.
Danny Gokey is safe which leaves Scott MacIntyre and Anoop Desai. Into the bottom three is Anoop.
Lady Gaga performs her hit
Poker Face. What an awesome performance. Vocal was average but the performance was HOT!.
Verdict time. Being sent back to safety is Allison Iraheta.
The person with the lowest number of votes this week and faces elimination is Megan. Simon tells Megan that they're not even going to evaluate her performance or give her a second chance. So she's gone.
Next week the Top 8 will take on the songs from the year that they were born.
For the first time in a long time, there is some contention between the results being predicted by Dial Idol and Idolblog.
Dial Idol has Anoop Desai, Allison Iraheta along with Megan Corkery in their bottom three.
Idolblog has Megan Corkery, Scott MacIntyre and Lil Rounds. Lil is looking quite safe on Dial Idol's poll though.
Danny Gokey has returned to the top of the polls.
So who will it be? Are we in for an upset tonight?
Battling for our affection this week are our Top 9 Idols who are going to be picking songs from the most popular downloads.
Let's get into the show!

This was so much better for Anoop and a pretty good way to kick off tonight's show.
Randy: You definitely picked up your swagger this week. Vocally it was cool but I wasn't sure it was the right song for you.
Kara: When you pick Usher you have to go up in your range and mix it up but that was a little safe.
Paula: I wasn't sure at first but I'm glad you've gone back to your playful side. I would work more on your stage presence.
Simon: I thought it was a complete and utter mess. You came across as a wannabe college boy wanting to be a popstar.
I don't think that was a smart song choice for Megan. Where has her fun side gone?.
Randy: Song choice.
Kara: I really like you but I think you're in trouble. It was just not the song choice for you.
Paula: Wanted to see a sensitive and vulnerable performance on a chair with a spotlight.
Simon: The song was boring, indulgent and monotonous and all the things we liked about you are disappearing.
I like this song. The performance of it was adequate but Gokey just doesn't do it for me.
Randy: I feel the competition started here tonight. Just keep it moving now and rock it.
Kara: You moved everyone in this room emotionally and you totally connected with the audience.
Paula: This is where you thrive and you leave me wanting more.
Simon: I thought that was your best performance of the series. Compared to the previous singers tonight that was like a racehorse competing with two snails.
Forget the performance, who dressed Allison this week?!
Randy: Vocally you can sing. I liked that you came out and played the guitar but what is with the outfit?!
Kara: You don't need to look the part. It was a little distracting. You don't have to try, you just are.
Paula: Loved your axe!
Simon: It was a bit of a dress up rock star and we lost something there and you shouted the song.
It was ok but again, I don't find him inspiring.
Randy: One of the best of the night.
Kara: I think you made some very smart decisions tonight. Great song choice coming from an honest place.
Paula: Out of all the contestants who have graced our stage, you...
Simon: Your best performance.
Another great song for tonight but it was a little karaoke for me.
Randy: You've got to let all the flavour for what works for you.
Kara: You are talented but I'm unsure of the kind of record you would make.
Paula: We know who you are but that wasn't a great performance for you.
Simon: I didn't get it at all and again it felt like someone trying to be someone else.
Was ok. But safe.
Randy: I didn't think that was the right song for you but you sung it well.
Kara: When you go up there it's effortless. Tonight we caught a glimpse of what we saw at the start.
Paula: I don't want to see an Adult Contemporary artist from you.
Simon: I find that quite similar to a wedding performance. The song was too soft. That was just so old fashioned and it's like your personality has been sucked out of you.
If that wasn't indulgent then I don't know what was. But still, it was hot.
Randy: This wasn't as corny as I thought it was going to be.
Kara: I can't wait to get to the show to see what you're going to do next.
Paula: Stephen Tyle, Mick Jagger and Adam Lambert.
Simon: I don't think it matters with you now.
Kris has really stepped it up over the last few weeks.
Randy: Definitely one of the best tonight.
Kara: That was artistry.
Paula: That could be a first cut.
Simon: That was a very good arrangement and your best performance.
David Cook and Lady Ga Ga tomorrow night as one more goes home.
Over 36 million votes were cast last night, the most ever for any American Idol Top 10.
The Top 10 perform a medley of Motown hits including
You Keep Me Hangin' On,
You're All I Need to Get By and
Ain't No Mountain High Enough.
Season 2 winner, Rueben Studdard, sings his new single
Together
And now to the results:
Adam Lambert is safe. Matt Giraud is not though. Big surprize! Kris Allen is also.. safe. Lil Rounds and Michael Sarver are asked to stand. Lil is safe while Michael are not.
Joss Stone and Smokey Robinson perform a duet of
You're The One For Me. All a bit bland really.
Allison Iraheta is safe. Anoop Desai is safe. Danny Gokey is also safe on the couches. Megan Corkery is safe meaning Scott MacIntyre is also in the bottom three.
Scott MacIntyre is given a life line and sent back to the couches and is safe.
Mr Stevie Wonder performs a medley of songs (
My Cherie Amour,
Superstition,
Overjoyed and All About the Love Again) and shows Scott MacIntyre how it's done.
With the lowest number of votes and going home this week is in fact, Michael Sarver. The judges aren't going to keep him so the extra performance is pointless. The judges cut him loose.
Bottom 3:
Matt Giraud (SAFE)
Michael Sarver
Scott MacIntyre (SAFE)
It's that time again. A wrap up of what the interweb is saying when it comes to who is going to be packing their bags on American Idol tonight.
The general consensus is that it is Michael Sarver's turn to be voted off the island. However, it's actually a fairly tight looking race. Despite Michael being at the bottom of the pack on the polls, Lil Rounds and Scott MacIntyre also failed to inspire votes last night.
Dial Idol has Lil being a little safer while Megan Corkery joins Scott and Michael in the bottom three.
Anyone else agree?
After President Obama evicted us from Tuesday night, the American Idol Top 10 finally get to perform tonight.
It's Motown night on American Idol this week and our Top 10 will be singing their souls out. Tomorrow night, someone will still be going home!
Let's get into the show!

This was a nice performance. I really liked that actually.
Randy: I think you're really consistent. You're doing nothing wrong though.
Kara: At this point in the competition, it's all about artistry. You owned that tonight.
Paula: You picked a great song and your personality is infectious. It was brilliant and you're growing and growing every week.
Simon: That was smart doing your own version of that song. You don't have that same swagger and confidence of some of the stars in this competition though.
I don't get Scott at all. So he's blind and can play the piano? Scott is no Stevie Wonder!
Randy: It was a very hotel performance and you need to start taking some risks. Nothing great happened with that.
Kara: I thought you bought tempo tonight but I wasn't crazy about you taking liberties with the melody as the execution wasn't perfect.
Paula: When you feel it, the audience feels it.
Simon: There's a line in the song "How much more can you take?" and I thought it was terrible. I thought it was completely the wrong song for you. I think you're better than that as an artist. You keeping the wrong song.
Got to love the coloring book and crayons Paula just pulled out for Simon to play with
I think Megan was better last week when she was sick. I didn't like the backing vocals in that at all.
Randy: That song was a train wreck for me. That song, that fast just didn't fit with who you are.
Kara: My Guy would have been more you. It was all over the place and too weird for you. The song was dominating you rather than you dominating the song.
Paula: You are stunning and the camera loves you but I have to agree that this wasn't the right song for you.
Simon: It was horrible and who ever is advising you, I would fire. I hate to say it but you could be in serious trouble after that.
Dull. Boring. It looks like Anoop has gone back to the unimpressive.
Randy: Turn it back up next week with some energy and get the party on.
Kara: That's one of the most beautiful songs ever written and one of the hardest to sing. Overall I thought you did a very good job and you're showing that you can sing but I want you to be a bit more creative.
Paula: You're doing just a really good job.
Simon: It was a good vocal but you looked half asleep through the performance. You need a little more showmanship.
One word. Karaoke. It's time to go, Michael Sarver!
Randy: The song was just too big for you and you made it a little too corny cause you were trying to do too much with it.
Kara: At this point in the competition it's not about the singing, it's about finding an artist. Who are you as an artist and what are you bringing that helps us know who you are as an artist.
Paula: It kinda felt a little Las Vegas Lounge for me.
Simon: I couldn't wait for that to end. You are taking part in this competition and you have no chance of winning based on that vocal.
This sounded like Motown. A little yelly for me but I guess that's Lil.
Randy: You have mad crazy vocals but the front of the song was a little bit of torture for me. It felt like you were rushing through the song.
Kara: You were the Diva tonight that everyone was waiting to here. I don't think that was the right song. You stayed true to the song but we need more from you. You screamed a bit and you're an effortless singer.
Paula: I disagree with Kara and Randy and I think you owned that song.
Simon: I think what you did tonight was an authentic tribute to Motown but I don't think it gave you a moment.
Adam Lambert is the star of the show. He's pretty much untouchable at the moment. No one else comes close to the standard of artistry that he brings to American Idol in 2009.
Randy: Tonight you showed you're not just a cool indy rocker. Unbelievably hot!
Kara: One of the best performances of the night.
Paula: I love the clean look tonight. You are exciting. You are it.
Simon: It was the best of the night. It sounded as good today as it did 30 years ago and you've emerged, for me, as a star.
That was a little bland for me. Danny seems to be getting lost in the middle now and is no longer a stand out for me.
Randy: It wasn't your best performance but I loved the feeling.
Kara: It was good, but not great and I'm still a fan.
Paula: You give us a first class performance every week.
Simon: I thought that was clumsy and amateurish.
That was funky. Great way to close out the show. Totally entertaining!
Randy: That was blazing hot!
Kara: 16 years old and you were in the bottom three last week?! America, what were you thinking!
Paula: You look fantastic and you're awesome.
Simon: You are a survivor and that was one of the best performances you've ever done.
Tomorrow night, one more will leave the show. There will be performances by Smokey Robinson and Joss Stone, Rueben Studard and Stevie Wonder. Catch you then!
American Idol has been voted out of its usual Tuesday night time slot this week due to President Obama's addressing of the nation.
American Idol will now air on Wednesday and Thursday this week at 8/7c.
Amclack67,
I sooo agree with you about Adam's song sounding like a Doors' song. As I was watching I said that to my husband, who is a huge Doors fan, and he didn't think that it sounded like them at all !!!!
That's what makes the world go round, different strokes (sounds) for different folks. I think that it is so amusing reading all of the impassioned, comments, opinions, and critiques of everyone.
It is a huge success for all of the contestants to make it to the top (36) (13) (11) (10)... out of hundreds of thousands of people who auditioned.
It's the results show for the second week of the finals. Will someone be sent home this week or will we have the result vetoed by the judges and have a double eviction next week?
While we're expecting to be saying goodbye to Alexis Grace, Michael Sarver is the pick of many. I guess we'll learn the result soon enough.
The tribute to the Grand Ole Opry last night concludes with a performance by the Top 11 of
T-R-O-U-B-L-E and it's nothing on the last few group performances we've seen on the American Idol stage.
It's results time. Ryan reminds us that only the Top 10 go on the American Idol Road Tour so whoever goes home tonight, wont be on the bus.
Danny Gokey is safe. So is Lil Rounds. Anoop Desai is also safe.
Either Allison Iraheta or Michael Sarver are in the bottom three. Allison is in the bottom three. Major shock.
But wait, Ryan is toying with us. Michael Sarver is also told he's in the bottom three.
Opry member Brad Paisley performs his new single
Then.
Back to the results. Scott MacIntyre is also going on tour. Joining Scott is Megan Corkery, Matt Giraud and Kris Allen.
Adam Lambert and Alexis Grace are the final two idols left waiting for their verdict. It should be fairly obvious that Alexis will be in the bottom three. And Alexis it is.
Ryan gives Allison a reprieve and she is safe.
Carrie Underwood performs
I Told You So with Randy Travis.
The judges have confirmed that one of the two finalists would have them consider using the veto on. Results after the break.
Michael is safe. Alexis Grace is gone.
Alexis performs Jolene again in the hopes she can sway the judges and convince them to use the veto. It's a no.
Next week we're celebrating 50 years of Motown. Catch you then!
