A memoir by former American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi has been confirmed for release by HarperCollins Publishing.

The autobiography, entitled ‘A Helluva High Note: Surviving Life, Love, and American Idol’, will be released next spring in the US.

DioGuardi, who was a successful songwriter prior to her stint on American Idol, served two seasons on the show before leaving it at the end of this year’s ninth season alongside Ellen DeGeneres and Simon Cowell.

Lee DeWyze notches up unwanted records with his album debut

American Idol champion Lee DeWyze has set a couple of records with the release of his debut album but they aren’t exactly the kind you want.

DeWyze’s first major label album effort “Live It Up” has debuted on the Billboard 200 albums chart at #19, which is the lowest debut of any American Idol winner in the show’s history.

Adding to that, the album is the lowest selling debut from Idol runners-up as well, with only 39,000 copies sold. Luckily, DeWyze’s chart position is slightly higher than that of Season 1’s Justin Guarini and Season 3’s Diana DeGarmo or else he would have notched up another unwanted record.

Incoming American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez has vowed to be a “tough but fair” judge when she makes her debut on the show.

Lopez and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler will join Randy Jackson on the judging panel for next year’s competition after the highly-publicised exits of Ellen DeGeneres, Kara DioGuardi and Simon Cowell.

Lopez says she wants to get her hands dirty in working with the contestants.

“I really want to put them through the wringer in the sense that I don’t want to let anybody really great go because they’re nervous or whatever and not get to see what they could’ve been,” she said.

Former American Idol judge Simon Cowell has praised his replacement, Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler.

Cowell told reporters at the recent International Emmy Awards in New York that he is confident that Tyler is the right man to take his spot on the judging panel.

He said Tyler should relax and enjoy his time on the show because "it's a fun job, you got to take it like that - you can't take it too seriously".

Cowell also joked: "I always said it had to be someone who wasn't better looking than me and they achieved it."
