What Keith Urban really thinks of his fellow Idol judges

Submitted by brad on Thu, 2013-01-10 03:56

First time American Idol judge Keith Urban has commented on his fellow judges, likening them to a dysfunctional family.

The supposed “feud” between Idol judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj has provided plenty of taking points prior to the premiere of the new season and for the most part Urban has been silent on the topic.

However, during the live Q&A event this week in Los Angeles, Urban mentioned how he loves the unpredictability that Carey and Minaj bring to the show.

When asked what his favourite part of the Idol experience has been so far, he said: “The dysfunctional family you see before you, I love being part of. I love the unpredictability.”

When Ryan Seacrest then attempted to bring up the subject of the “feud”, Minaj tried to cut him off.

Fox’s president of alternative programming Mike Darnell has confirmed that the highly publicised “feud” between new American Idol judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj is true.

"It's authentic," Darnell told the crowd at this week’s 2013 TCA in Pasadena.

"The two of them were always angry," piped up Idol’s executive producer Nigel Lythgoe.

Carey and Minaj were also present, with Carey playing down the tension between the pair.

A new anonymously-written novel that takes a thinly-veiled look at the tenth season of American Idol is set for release.

‘Elimination Night’ is a work of fiction that claims to have “first-hand knowledge of the inner workings of a top TV talent show."

The novel focusses on a young production assistant, Sasha, who is privy to the behind-the-scenes goings on at a show called ‘Project Icon.

Two of the characters are based on the now departed judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez and a third is clearly inspired by Randy Jackson.

L.A. Reid has confirmed he will not be returning to The X Factor next season.

The Epic Records head honcho will depart the show after spending two seasons on the judging panel in order to return to his job at the record label.

"I have the utmost respect for Simon Cowell," Reid said this week. "He is the very best, and I have had the opportunity to learn so much from him. Working with him on X Factor has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I'm honored to have sat on the panel with such incredible talent."

Mariah Carey has said that she had reservations about joining the judging panel for American Idol this season.

The singer told reporters this week that it was her husband Nick Cannon that urged her to take the opportunity.

"He really wanted me to do this and I had my own kind of reservations -- I didn't know how I would adapt to this situation." she said. "But it’s great to be here, I'm happy and honored to be here.

“It’s a huge deal. This is massive. It’s one of the biggest television shows ever. It changed the way we look at music and changed people’s vocabularies. Pitchy? Thank you, Randy for that!”

Steven Tyler v Nicki Minaj: Round One

Submitted by brad on Tue, 2012-11-27 10:02

Former American Idol judge Steven Tyler has offered his opinion on the current crop of judges and caused a bit of controversy at the same time.

The Aerosmith frontman gave his thoughts on the supposed Nicki Minaj/Mariah Carey beef, telling MTV: "They should have something going on, which is calledcamaraderie.”

He continued: "They should have something going on so thick and beautiful that they can lay it over the new talent that's trying to birth itself. It needs to be birthed, not judged by 'entertainment' factors, it needs to be judged by people that [are] honest, true, that have the 'it' factor. Not the 'it' factor because they can fight. The fuck is that all about?"
