After months of grueling competition, in only 2 weeks we'll be crowning the next American Idol.

It's another duel round of competition tonight.  First up is California Dreaming with songs either from or about the golden state and then songs that each of the contestants wish that they'd written.

Here's how the show played out:

Phillip Phillips
Song choice: Have You Ever Seen The Rain
Have You Ever Seen the Rain? - Chronicle: 20 Greatest Hits

My thoughts: That was a tad boring for me and a little pitchy in places.

Judges comments:
Randy: It started a little rough and you were finding your way with the pitch. It was sensational once you got in the moment though.
Jennifer: Your vocal was perfect for that song and it was a great way to start the show.
Steven: You're living proof that the road of success is always under construction

Hollie Cavanagh
Song choice: Faithfully
Faithfully - Faithfully

Joshua Ledet
Song choice: You Raise Me Up
You Raise Me Up - Closer

My thoughts: It wasn't as much as an epic performance as I was expecting but there were some truly beautiful runs in it.

Judges comments:
Jennifer: This is going to be so interesting from now until the end of the show. What can I say. It was another great performance.
Steven: I'm really glad you got on that plane. You sang your little toosh off again today.
Randy: If you're a great singer and an artist, you can sing anything. I am so excited to see what you do. What a ginormous career you have ahead of you.

Jessica Sanchez
Song choice: Steal Away
Steal Away - Tell Mama - The Complete Muscle Shoals Sessions

My thoughts: Another powerhouse performance from Jessica.

Judges comments:
Jennifer: Who taught you how to growl? That was crazy, crazy. When I think of all your contemporaries out there, you're one of the best.
Steven: You just nailed that and showed the other side of your voice.
Randy: I love the whole vibe of that.

Round two and it's the songs that our American Idol's wish they'd written.

Phillip Phillips
Song choice: Volcano
Volcano - O (Deluxe Version)

My thoughts: This was a reasonable performance from Phillip but he seems to lack the X Factor for me.

Judges comments:
Steven: I heard the musician that time. I've never heard you sing like that before. That's the kind of song I could listen to in the headphones over and over
Jennifer: That is a real testament to who you are. It was one of the most poigniant moments I've seen on the show. It was really lovely.
Randy: That's what's up right there. That is what this is all about.  That right there was one of your best performances this whole season.

Hollie Cavanagh
Song choice: I Can't Make You Love Me
I Can't Make You Love Me - The Best of Bonnie Raitt On Capitol 1989-2003

My thoughts: I really like this song but I think Hollie is going to be going home tomorrow night.

Judges comments:
Jennifer: I felt that could have been the best song for you but it didn't work out that way for me.
Randy: You really needed a moment in that song but it gave you nowhere to go. It was the wrong choice at the wrong time to me.

Joshua Ledet
Song choice: It's a Man's World
It's a Man's World - Star Time

My thoughts: It was good but a little bit to yelly for me.

Judges comments:
Steven: Neither man nor woman has sung with that much compassion on this show before. I can go home now. I have never heard anything like that in my life.
Jennifer: You're making me speak different languages now.
Randy: Everyone who saw this, got something from this tonight.  I think it was the best performance from any singing show.

Jessica Sanchez
Song choice: And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going
And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going (Highlights Version) - Dreamgirls (Music from the Motion Picture)

My thoughts: Again, this is a bit yelly for me.  Jessica is still amazing for a 16 year old though.

Judges comments:
Steven: That's what I'm talking about. You just made everyone forget where people were and what they were doing.
Jennifer: It looks like we have a race to the finish. It was a real moment. That was amazing.
Randy: I don't know what's going on tonight but you, Joshua and Phillip are in it to win it. I don't know where you find the experience to do that?

Tomorrow night, one more goes home.  Who will it be?
