American Idol s09e05 - Los Angeles Auditions

Submitted by The Critic on Tue, 2010-01-26 19:08

Tonight our audition roadtrip takes us to Los Angeles, California.  Canada's Avril Lavigne is joining the judging panel tonight.  She's still young enough to audition so it's likely she'll be voting for the success or failure of people older than herself.  Also sharing some experience this week is Katy Perry.

11,000 hopefuls packed out the Rosebowl for the auditions tonight.

Those going through to Hollywood:

Jim Ranger
Jim Ranger, 27 from Bakersfield, CA - Original song

Mary Powers
Mary Powers, 28 from Burbank, CA - Pat Benatar - 80's Super Hits - Love Is a Battlefield (Edit) [Remastered] Love is a Battlefield

Andrew Garcia
Andrew Garcia, 23 from Moreno Valley, CA - Maroon 5 - Songs About Jane - Sunday Morning Sunday Morning

Tasha Layton
Tasha Layton, 26 from Granada Hills, CA - Joss Stone - Introducing Joss Stone - Baby Baby Baby Baby Baby Baby

Chris Golightly
Chris Golightly, 25 from Los Angeles, CA - Anthology - Stand by Me Stand By Me

Anyone else disappointed with tonight's show?  Hardly any talent from the city of stars!

Only 22 people made it to Hollywood from the 11,000 people who lined up to audition. Crazy.

The following made it through to Hollywood but weren't featured:
Derek Klena
Didi Benami
Donald Webber
Farayi Moore
Frankie Jordan
JB Ahfua
Jose Munoz
Justin Kalama
Kiera Masters
Kristina Michell
Melissa Bitanga
Rose Flack
Samantha Musa

Does anyone know one of the

Does anyone know one of the songs they were playing on the LA auditions in the background? it sort of sounded like taylor swift maybe, it was near the end of the episode, they were playing the song as they recapped on all of the contestants!! I really liked it but cant find it anywhere!! HELP! It may have been from the Dallas auditions but im pretty sure it was the LA one. THanks!!!

I agree with the comments re:

I agree with the comments re: Avril and Katy at guest judges.  Avril was snotty and childish and Katy seemed to add more tension than a legitimate musical opinion.

Best judges so far have been Victoria Beckham and Mary J.

Avril was not at all snotty

Avril was not at all snotty she told it like it was not many people do that!!

Avril snotty ha yeah right

Avril snotty ha yeah right everybody wishes they could be as cool as her!!!

Avril....really? Did she

Avril....really?

Did she contribute anything to Idol last night, besides coming across as a giggly snotty little adolecent child. Her questioning Jim Ranger and saying no based on him being a father and pastor but agreeing he has a great voice comes across as Avril being a satanist. Good vs. Evil. After looking further into Jim Ranger's music and his original song "Drive" Jim Ranger really has some chops. The song was cut off too early and right where it showcases his real ability. Look him up on Myspace or youtube. His song "Ain't no Sunshine" or "Use Me Up" where he sings lead for his band Soulajar proves to me he is a real contender on Idol.

She condributeded enough i mean god she was only guest judge. Idol was lucky to have her. I agree 100% with her about Jim Ranger hes a paster and has 2 small children he would never be able to make it that far. Anyway what are you freaking out about he got in did he not!!?

Last night's episode was full

How sure are we that these audition shows are legit?

Not to mention...you went to

Not to mention...you went to judge wearing that?? Simon was at least nice by saying, "This is the first time we have actually had a devil on the show".  Had it been a contestant, it would have been a different story... As a contestant, i would have found it hard to take Avril seriously.. but Katy was hilarious..."this is not a lifetime" movie...sometimes you just have to be less affected!

Avril came off like one of

Avril came off like one of the cool kids in high school demeaning the uncool kids. she was whispering behind her hand, making snide remarks....she just came off as a spoiled little snot. she is a grown woman for frigs sake. she has been married, now she is getting divorced. maybe someday soon she will start to act like a 25 year old woman instead of a 15 year old brat.

did you ever think about when

did you ever think about when Kara and Kristen were acting like stotty little girls? Oh and plus who isnt married and divorced now a days!!!!!

^^What prompted you to call

^^What prompted you to call her that? I didn't see anything she said that was any harsher than Katy Perry or other guests but please enlighten us.

Avril is a b-tch!  Wow!  She

Avril is a b-tch!  Wow!  She thinks she is all that and more... glad I don't have to watch her all season.  One night is enough to make me turn off the LA auditions.
