American Idol Episode 39 - Top 3 Elimination Review

After last week's drama and uproar over Chris Daughtry being eliminated from American Idol it was always going to mean that the remaining contestants, Katharine McPhee, Elliott Yamin and Taylor Hicks were going to have to dig deep if they wanted to make it into the Grand Final.

I was really worried after seeing what Katharine's songs were going to be as I couldn't stand either of them but she pulled out the stops to create some great moments.

Elliott wasn't on his game as much as he was last week and put himself on the knifes edge for tonight's elimination.

Taylor once again entertained but proved that he doesn't have the best voice in the competition. So who did you think was the best and deserves to be in the Grand Final. Let's take a look at the Idolblog.com polls.

Elliott Yamin (24%) has dropped from the top of last week's poll to being on the bottom. There is a reasonable gap between him and Katharine McPhee (34%) which leads me to believe that is definitely going to be Elliott going home this week.

Taylor Hicks (42%) once again is the favourite and if his luck continues will be crowned the next American Idol.

For the second week in a row Katharine McPhee (39%) is the person you'd most like to see go tonight while Elliott Yamin (36%) comes in second with Taylor Hicks (25%) being the least favoured to be leaving the competition.

I'm not sure that we'll see a big shock result tonight. I think Taylor is safe and he'll be one of the Grand Finalists next week. Going home? I think it will be Elliott and that seems to be the general concensus across the net.

More than 50 MILLION VOTES were made last night so there are obviously plenty of people with vetted interest in who is going through to the finals.

We get to see the homecomings that each of the final three had this last week before each of them gets to sing.

Taylor sings Takin' it to the Streets. Katharine sing's Think. Elliott sings Moody's mood for love.

Clive Davis is being awarded a plaque for 33 million sales worldwide.

Of the 50,000,000 votes cast last night, the break down was:

33.68%
33.26%
33.06%

The person with the lowest number of votes is Elliott Yamin

Well, I thought Kat should have never been invited to Hollywood. Chris should be the AI winner, Taylor should be the runner-up and Elliott still would be the one going home tonight.

I'm not trying to be mean, but it's time to move on without Chris. Chris is very popular and a decent singer. He'll make his money/fame so no need to fret. Elliot is also a fine singer and is humble, but just not up to par to be the next American Idol. Katharine seems nice, but to me she is a whiner. Taylor ought to be the next American Idol. He's mature, likeable, friendly, humble, and of course he can sing well. If this were a presidential election with Taylor vs. Katharine, Taylor would win 5 to 1. However this is American Idol were anything can happen to anyone at anytime without warning.

I want Taylor to win. I really wanted Elliott but since he now is off the show I definitely do not want Kat. She is too stuck up on herself. go soul patrol............

i'm from south africa,we're bit behind paris just gone, cannot believe chris gone u guys seem to do it every year, best never make it to final or if do never win. look at bo and aitken.anyway taylor for me

The Final Three elimination round revealed that the final 3
contestants has the following voting percentage from 50 million votes
casted :

Taylor Hicks 33.68% (16,840,000 votes)

Katherine McPhee 33.26% (16,630,000 votes)

Elliot Yamin 33.06% (16,530,000 votes).

What I find hard to believe is that the spread is so even : everyone
gets 33%???? What is the statistical odds that it will turn out to be
like this?

One would expect at least something like 35%, 33% and 32% or something
else.

It is like the show's producers looked at the votes and said : "Lets
adjust the percentages so that all three will be almost the same and
the audience will go ooh ahh ohh sooo close and we will milk their
emotions dry and retire to Tahiti muahahahaha!!"

I did not get that feeling when I saw the percentages. The feeling I
got was "That's looks artificial."

Look, I don't expect everyone to want the same person to win. I liked all of the top four.

But don't you think it's going a bit overboard to suggest that Katharine shouldn't have even been invited to Hollywood?! Good grief!

Unless, of course, you don't think she should have been invited because she'd clean everyone else's clock with her superior vocal control.

LOL I don't know about not inviting her - that's just silly.

However, her and Ryan might make a nice couple - they could spend hours telling themselves how great they are.
