Lisa Tucker was eliminated last week after she ironically went home during the week of 21st Century Hits on American Idol after the judges had told her that she needed to perform songs that weren't so old school. Given the chance to do that and America wasn't impressed and sent her packing.
Tonight's show is all about country which should be right up Kellie Pickler and Bucky Covington street. If anyone is going to struggle tonight then it's likely to be Paris Bennett and Mandisa Hundley.
Kenny Rogers is in the house tonight providing all the extra clip material as Stevie Wonder and Barry Mannilow have done for the last couple of weeks.
Taylor Hicks
Song choice:
Take Me Home, Country Roads
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5701
TXT Vote to 5701
My Thoughts: I'm not liking this song at all. It just seems boring for what I'm used to from Taylor. There are a few notes that are off as well. What's happened to Taylor? That was just dull for me.
Randy: For me it was a pretty good choice but the vocal was ok. I didn't see any of your personality though.
Paula: The song choice didn't let you shine. I expected more.
Simon: It was safe, lazy boring. It sounded like you chose that song 10 seconds ago without any rehearsal
Mandisa Hundley
Song choice:
Any Man Of Mine
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5702
TXT Vote to 5702
My Thoughts: I hate Mandisa's outfit tonight. It's really not very flattering at all. Not a bad song choice for her considering I thought she may struggle with the country theme.
Randy: Weird song choice and the beginning wasn't hot for me but you got it together for that last four bars.
Paula: You can sing the phone book. The encyclopedia.
Simon: I thought the song was horrible. It was fun. It was cutsie but I like the four seconds after it finished.
Elliott Yamin
Song choice:
If Tomorrow Never Comes
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5703
TXT Vote to 5703
My Thoughts: I'm more familiar with
Ronan Keating's version of the song. Not a bad rendition but not my favourite either. I'm still trying to figure out the marketability of Elliott as although he can sing, he just doesn't seem right for the title of American Idol.
Randy: Finally the competition has started tonight.
Paula: You are such a breath of fresh air to this business. I think you're fantastic.
Simon: I thought it was a good song choice but not a great vocal. It was a bit hesitant and you sounded nervous.
Paris Bennett
Song choice:
How Do I Live
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5704
TXT Vote to 5704
My Thoughts: This is a great song but Paris seems to be a bit shakey on it tonight. It almost seems a little low for her. Something doesn't sound right though.
Randy: That was a tough song tonight. The front part of it was not good. Just ok for me tonight.
Paula: You have joy when you perform but I don't think you connected with the song tonight.
Simon: I thought it was an excellent choice of song. Early Dionne Warwick.
Ace Young
Song choice:
Tonight I Wanna Cry
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5705
TXT Vote to 5705
My Thoughts: This could actually be one of Ace's better performances. I really wish one of the stylists would take to his hair though.
Randy: These are hard songs to bring your own personality to. It was really boring for me but you showed yourself at the end with the falsetto.
Paula: You have the knack for picking the right songs and that was a good contemporary take on the song.
Simon: I think you had a good run tonight with a good song choice.
Kellie Pickler
Song choice:
Fancy
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5706
TXT Vote to 5706
My Thoughts: There is a heap of potential for this song to rock out but I just feel let down as it just seems an empty performance.
Randy: Finally you're in your element. Good song choice.
Paula: I think it's great when you sing songs you can sink your teeth into.
Simon: Love the performance, hated the song.
Chris Daughtry
Song choice:
Making Memories Of Us
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5707
TXT Vote to 5707
My Thoughts: This is actually quite nice to hear Chris performing a song with some softer tones. It's actually showing off a really nice side of Chris. What a great performance.
Randy: I actually really enjoyed hearing you sing tonight and it was good seeing you change up.
Paula: You showed versatility and still stayed true to who you are.
Simon: I think you guys have chosen boring songs for the last two weeks and I think the audience at home deserve better.
Katharine McPhee
Song choice:
Bringing Out Elvis
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5708
TXT Vote to 5708
My Thoughts: This is a very sexy performance from Katharine. It doesn't sound very country though.
Randy: Kinda blusey country. Very nice, I liked it.
Paula: You looked hot. Sexy. Cool.
Simon: That song was just peculiar.
Bucky Covington
Song choice:
Best I Ever Had
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5709
TXT Vote to 5709
My Thoughts: Bucky seems to have been improving every week. Unfortunately for him I don't think he's building a fan base from it.
Randy: It was alright tonight. Good song choice. Started a bit rough.
Paula: You cand Kellie both shine tonight in your element.
Simon: I'm no expert on this type of music but it sounded ok to me.
You are asuuming that Paris and Mandisa will have trouble tonight only because they are African American.. Country music is basically Soul/R&B music performed by predominately white musicians.. Country and Soul music go hand in hand.. if you look at the music and the chord changes they are based on the blues just like every other popular american musical form.. with that said.. Because of their musical backgrounds, Paris and Mandisa should be two of the strongest performers tonight.. I know you have deadlines and are under pressure to say something insightful but, just think a little bit before you press submit.. And for the record, Paris even sang a country song at her audition!
And strangely enough, both Mandisa and Paris were in the bottom 3. Does that mean that African American voters didn't watch the show because they're not fans of country and therefore forgot to vote? Probably not because according to you, African American's are better versed at Country music than white people.
Oh James... Firstly, I have no deadline and am not under any pressure from anyone to say anything. Secondly, Paris and Mandisa having difficulty with Country is no different from Kellie Pickler performing Soul/R&B. Based on your assumptions, Kellie Pickler should be one of the best on Soul night if you flip your argument on it's head. Somehow I seriously doubt that.
