So Melissa McGhee is gone and we're down to 11. This week our American Idol contestants are singing hits from the 50's. David Radford must be guttered he's not here this week. How will Kevin Covais do considering this may be the style of music the majority of his fans listen to anyway. Who knows? Buckle up though cause we're about to get busy.
Barry Manilow had our Idols come to meet him in Vegas in between rehearsals this week to celebrate his 35 year long career and the release of his new album
The Greatest Songs of the Fifties he's helping the contestants prepare for this week's show.
Mandisa Hundley
Song choice:
I Don't Hurt Anymore
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5701
TXT Vote to 5701
My Thoughts: Mandisa is a true diva but she isn't going to win American Idol. I predict she'll be going home around the top 5/6. Good song choice for her and she looks glamorous.
Randy: I'm a little speechless. What a classy way to start the show. What's cool is that you've set the mark.
Paula: You took me right back to the 50's. You're a thoroughbred.
Simon: You are blossoming. Apart from the vocal, it was a very sexy performance. It's a great stripper song. I absolutely loved it.
Bucky Covington
Song choice:
Oh Boy!
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5702
TXT Vote to 5702
My Thoughts: This seems to be a strange song choice to me. Is this Bucky coming out of the closet? The song sounds flat and empty. I'm glad that's over. That was horrible.
Randy: That was a great song choice for you and I like the mic moves. The falsetto was great.
Paula: Great choice of song. Good song performance.
Simon: Now I'm going to give you a reality check. It was nothing more than a pointless karaoke contest. If someone had tuned in to see that for the first time they would have been saying so what.
Paris Bennett
Song choice:
Fever
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5703
TXT Vote to 5703
My Thoughts: I always look forward to Paris' performances and this is no exception. I love the key change. The ending was sensational.
Randy: I wasn't sure how that was going to go at the start but you blew it out the box the rest of the song.
Paula: I forgot you were 17 with some of those moves. You look phenomenal. Your vocals were impeccable.
Simon: This is what you do best. You have the perfect voice for that kind of song.
Chris Daughtry
Song choice:
Walk The Line
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5704
TXT Vote to 5704
My Thoughts: I absolutely love this version. Chris is a real star. A few notes here and there that were out but what a fantastic performance.
Randy: I don't think it was the best vocal you've done on the show but you put your own spin on a song everyone knows. You're ready.
Paula: There are a few of you American Idols that I really look forward to every week. You should already be touring and we should be buying tickets.
Simon: I don't think it was the best vocal either but I don't think that matters. It was completely different to what I hated about Bucky's performance. And I think you're the first contestant we've had who has compromised who he is.
Katharine McPhee
Song choice:
Come Rain or Come Shine
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5705
TXT Vote to 5705
My Thoughts: I love Katharine. This competition is so hot this year. Performances like this really show up performances like Bucky's. Wow!
Randy: It wasn't my favourite performance but it was a tough song to sing but you worked it out.
Paula: You look absolutely exquisite and I think you'll be a contendor the whole way through this competition.
Simon: Something happened tonight and I think that was that tonight you turned into a star. That falls into the "special" category. I loved it.
Taylor Hicks
Song choice:
Not Fade Away
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5706
TXT Vote to 5706
My Thoughts: I'm loving the suit that matches his hair color. I'm waiting for the song to explode and it does with the saxophone player coming out to join Taylor on stage. Taylor is really loving being out on that stage. Another consistent Taylor Hicks performance.
Randy: Dude. You're having a blast running around. I don't think it was the most challenging song for you but I love you.
Paula: I love so much about you. Someone should be shooting you and turning it into an exercise video.
Simon: Sorry, but if that was the first time you'd seen that performance out of context but that was like a hideous party performance. It is a singing competition in case you've forgotten.
Lisa Tucker
Song choice:
Why do Fools Fall in Love
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5707
TXT Vote to 5707
My Thoughts: With all the old songs that Lisa has been singing, this has to be one of the least impressive. She's really talented but if she doesn't start to pull out some numbers that reflect her age then she'll be outta here sooner rather than later.
Randy: Good song choice for you. But I don't think it was the best. It got good at the end.
Paula: You're a powerhouse and I think you have a big career ahead of you.
Simon: I feel like I'm trapped in some high school musical and I want to leave.
Kevin Covais
Song choice:
When I Fall In Love
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5708
TXT Vote to 5708
My Thoughts: Kevin is just so Disney. I can hear him doing soundtracks to children's animated movies in the future.
Randy: That is one of my favourite songs. I like you. There is something about you.
Paula: It takes a lot of courage to start a song singing 10 feet away from Simon. People adore you. You did another good job tonight.
Simon: Kevin, I like you because you're like a man. You take it well. I think your audience is going to love that version.
Elliott Yamin
Song choice:
Teach Me Tonight
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5709
TXT Vote to 5709
My Thoughts: Elliott can certainly sing but I'm a little bored by this song despite him singing it well.
Randy: You worked it out!
Paula: I got goose bumps. You moved me. You're fantastic and you're so needed in this competition.
Simon: It was fantastic.
Kellie Pickler
Song choice:
Walking After Midnight
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5710
TXT Vote to 5710
My Thoughts: Woah. Someone needs to tell the makeup department to settle down. Talk about overkill! This is certainly not Kellie's best performance by far. My gosh that makeup is terrible! Did I say that already?
Randy: Great song choice. The country pop girl is back.
Paula: You were the tigeress tonight. This was a ture Kellie Pickler performance.
Simon: You got this absolutely right. It was ballsy. It was sexy. Welcome back.
Ace Young
Song choice:
In the Still of the Night
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5711
TXT Vote to 5711
My Thoughts: Another typical Ace Young performance catering to the 8-12 year old girls who watch this show.
Randy: You know what. Ace is back tonight.
Paula: There are 34 signs that say Ace will you marry me. It was amazing.
Simon: It wasn't the best vocal tonight but I don't think that is going to matter. It wasn't your best performance but it was better than last week and I don't think you'll be in the bottom three this week.

Bucky was horrible. The only
Bucky was horrible. The only thing worse was watching a drunken Paula. Somebody should really do an intervention on that woman.
I thought Lisa was going to be the one to go, but it was Kevin. No big shock, just thought he would last longer. Remember that Russian kid last season???
I agree with your comments
I agree with your comments about Kellie's make-up, looked way OTT.
Did anybody else notice something odd about the reminder clips at the end of the show? Check out Kellie's lips and how Ace is standing.
I thought Lisa's performance
I thought Lisa's performance was o.k. Kevin just have to go. i don't think he can compete with the rest of the guys. But the most annoying thing is watching Paula Abdul making a fool of herself acting without a shred of decorum. Fox should really replace her with someone who has more grace and dignity. She acts like a four year old. It is really really annoying when she interrupts Simon when he delivers his judgement as if she is the only judge there. GET Her OUT!!
