Here we are! The first week of the top 12. We've all been excited to see who would make it to this prestigeous position but now it's time to get rid of one of them. Tonight our twelve American Idol finalists are performing the music of the legendary Stevie Wonder .

To introduce our finalists we see a montage of the journey so far to the wonderful song Keeping the Dream Alive by Freiheit which can be found on the Say Anything Soundtrack.

My Thoughts: Ace is playing right into the palms of his audience tonight with this song choice. I'm not the biggest fan of Ace's but he's doing well with this song. Good choice.
Randy: I was excited about tonight cause of Stevie but I was worried cause he's hard to sing. I liked your energy but it was just alright for me.
Paula: I think you started off the night fantastic. You even had some cool dance moves in there.
Simon: Luckily for you this audience is very easily pleased. It won't be the best vocal tonight, I can guarantee that.

Kellie Pickler
Song choice: Blame it on the Sun

My Thoughts: It's a very simple song and it sounds a little too low for her. A tad boring to be honest, compared to the last few weeks.
Randy: Very strange song choice for you. All that spark that is Kellie Pickler wasn't there and vocally I think the key was low but I loved the shoes.
Paula: You could tell you were a little nervous. The little razzle dazzle that you bring didn't show up.
Simon: Everything went wrong tonight. It looks like you went to Dolly Parton school. It was all old and safe and boring. Your worst performance so far.

My Thoughts: Nice move to start off on the stool. The only problem I have is that it doesn't sound very original. There is nothing wrong with Elliott's voice but he needs to get a bit of spark happening. In saying that, it was a very nice ending though.
Randy: So this is your comfort zone. I didn't think this was your best performance and it was a bit ordinary but that not at the end was great.
Paula: I love your passion and you're an amazing singer and we'll be seeing more of you.
Simon: That didn't have the wow factor. It was a good rendition but we need to see some originality.

My Thoughts: I was expecting more from Mandisa tonight. But it turns out she's just warming up. The start of the song was a bit lack lustre but she finishes it off well and in style.
Randy: You were amazing last week but you weren't as good this week. So far tonight though, you're the best.
Paula: What Stevie said is true. You can sing anything.
Simon: Now we have a competition. Best so far.

My Thoughts: I don't think this is the best performance of Chris' that I've seen but he is such the rocker.
Randy: Every week you figure out a way to make it your own. You worked it out.
Paula: I never worry. I just sit back and enjoy. That was fantastic.
Simon: Thank God for Chris. We had some good performances tonight but that was the only real world performance. Best tonight by a mile.
