The American Idol girls performed last night for our votes and now tonight, the final 8 remaining boys will perform in the hopes that they can secure a place in the top 12
Last week, Jose and David left us and this week's departing contestants will be disappointed that they made is so close and yet so far.
First up tonight is:
Gedeon McKinney
Song choice: When A Man Love A Woman ![]()
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5701
TXT Vote to 5701
My Thoughts: There is something about Gedeon's smile that I find un-nerving. He's just to cabaret for American Idol I think.
Randy: It was alright. It started ok for me. You're a real old soul in this competition. Nice way to start the show.
Paula: You're unique in this competition. You're a real showman and you're needed in this competition.
Simon: You are kinda odd aren't you. I thought it was ok. A bit cabaret but you're growing on me.
Chris Daughtry
Song choice: Broken ![]()
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5702
TXT Vote to 5702
My Thoughts: I got so sick of hearing this song on the radio so it's nice to hear it a little different. I love Chris' voice and his arrangement of the song is really sweet. A little sharp in a couple of places but very nice.
Randy: You know I'm a fan. I love people who know who you are. You're ready. Another good performance.
Paula: What ever happens in the competition I'm sure you'll be selling out stadiums. I can already hear you on the radio.
Simon: I wasn't so impressed. I thought it was a bit indulgant. You need to be as broad as possible and I thought it was boring. You still need to entertain.
Kevin Covais
Song choice: Vincent (Starry, Starry Night) ![]()
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5703
TXT Vote to 5703
My Thoughts: I think Kevin has played to his audience very well with this song.
Randy: It was an interesting song choice for me. Whatever the song though, you can sing.
Paula: I have nothing but love for you. You command attention when you sing. Ballads are great for you.
Simon: In the same was as you like watching puppies play, people will enjoy it. I think the granny vote is yours again tonight. I thought it was juvenille.
Bucky Covington
Song choice: Wave on Wave ![]()
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5704
TXT Vote to 5704
My Thoughts: Oops. I switched off. I guess that means that was boring.
Randy: What I like about the boys is that you know who you are. I liked it.
Paula: You're unpretentious. I like the raw, untapped talent of you.
Simon: It was ok. It wasn't exception and I don't think ok is good enough.
Will Makar
Song choice: How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) ![]()
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5705
TXT Vote to 5705
My Thoughts: I think Will's performance is far more juvenille that what Simon thought of Kevin's performance. He looks and sounds like he's singing at some high school talent show.
Randy: That was not good for me. It was like a bad karaoke version.
Paula: I totally disagree. Forget 11 year olds. I'm a fan. I think you raised your game.
Simon: Paula you must have been starved of entertainment as a child. I have to agree Randy. At least you're getting the middle aged vote.
Taylor Hicks
Song choice: Takin' It to the Streets ![]()
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5706
TXT Vote to 5706
My Thoughts: Taylor is just a fantastic performer. We have never had anything like him on American Idol. His quirky dance moves are just so crazy that you're eyes can never leave the screen.
Randy: The score goes like this. Great song choice. Good job singing it. But the dancing! What was that!?
Paula: I'm taking those steps and incorporating them in my next performance. That was my favourite performance of yours.
Simon: You could single handedly kill the music video industry. That was definitely a radio performance. Best performance of the night.
Elliott Yamin
Song choice: Heaven ![]()
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5707
TXT Vote to 5707
My Thoughts: Elliott can sing, there's no doubt about that but I was a little bored with this performance. I'd quite like to see him do something up tempo.
Randy: I really look forward to hearing you sing every week. You've got it. With hearing in only one ear and you can still sing in tune? We got a hot one tonight!
Paula: You are absolutely amazing. I'm beside myself.
Simon: I thought it was a cop out for you. It was the first time I felt a disconnect. I wasn't crazy about it. Tonight wasn't the best for me.
Ace Young
Song choice: Butterflies ![]()
Ph Vote: 1 866 436 5708
TXT Vote to 5708
My Thoughts: I'm not liking this at all. The falsetto is painful. It's gotten a bit better towards the end of the song but I don't think this is Ace's best performance by any stretch of the imagination.
Randy: You've got a great falsetto. It was hot.
Paula: That was better than the original.
Simon: I think you made that work but I think there were parts that didn't.
How hot was Ace last night!??!
If you want to buy the bad ass shirt that he was wearing and represent for Ace all season, visit www.kowboys.net and check out the Ace Sheild T or thermal.
If Paula thinks Will was good she had better cut back on the meds, I think it's starting to effect her hearing. Tell Randy and Simon to please do an intervention with her.
Now I have to say that I don't understand the fuss over Taylor at all. He covers Michael McDonald and does just an OK job, certainly nothing earth shattering. When other performers try note for note covers and/or they don't measure up to the original version of a song, they get blasted by the judges. Does Taylor get a pass by spazzing out like Joe Cocker? He's just an average singer at best, he's really not that special. Do yourself a favor, go on Amazon and check any song by UK's James Hunter or USA's Tad Robinson and you'll hear what a real blue eyed soul/blues singer should sound like. Then maybe you'll have a better barometer to judge Taylor by. If you're adding points for his funny moves, then why not give Giddeon or Elliot points for funny looks, they both can sing circles around Taylor...although Elliot did have an off night this time.
I own a curves for women excersize gym and I am positive that mandika is a professional singer for curves. As a matter of fact she sang i'm every woman on stage at a curves convention in las vegas (in addition to singing it alone in her shower). I was under the impression that A.I. was a search of amatuers and the contestants should be held to a certain level of truthfulness about the history of thier singing career.
